Lionsgate is currently campaigning for the upcoming release of Expend4bles next week, and that includes its volley of preview clips that’ll be circulating online until then. The latest clip is available below as well, featuring Jason Statham and Iko Uwais which you can view below:
Here’s the thing: We’ve been here before. Say what you will about Mile 22, I certainly have. Indeed, that film was in different hands, although it doesn’t change the fact that Uwais hasn’t had a proper presentation of his skillset as an action star apart from his feature film showcase in “Wu Assssins” spin-off, Fistful Of Vengeance on Netflix.
Expend4bles is directed by Scott Waugh who we last heard from following the aforementioned streamer’s release of his Jackie Chan/John Cena headliner, Hidden Strike. The film is an ample serving of action for fans of the genre and Chan alike, but it’s important to note that Expend4bles will be Uwais’s first time back in a mainstream theatrical production after barely getting some breathing room in Berg’s movie, or even as the blonde-haired villain in Stuber.
The clip, for what its worth, shows some promise, and I’ve even heard from at least one person close to the production telling me “You’ll like it!”
We shall see. This is gonna be Hollywood’s first test to see if it can pass muster when it comes to doing Uwais justice alongside the film’s top-tier stars, and it’s been a disappointment each time. So…here’s to hoping the optimism is worth it.
