It’s been a while since I’ve written a proper article about The Raid films. I’ve posted, yeah, but it’s interesting that the film is gaining traction again, and not for nothing either.
Director Roel Reine’s latest return to martial arts and fantasy with Netflix’s Fistful Of Vengeance does a fine job of maintaining the same energy and flair of its preceding Wu Assassins series, and overall delivers largely on what fans can expect from a film headlined by Iko Uwais, an action star who broke ground more than ten years ago with some of the most elevated action cinema ever shot on camera.
Years ago, I became obsessed with listing my “top-tens” or “fives” in final fight scenes. There was a UK website that produced such lists and for their final fight scene list, it bothered me for the longest time that it never had the one featured in Drive between Mark Dacascos and Masaya Kato, so you can imagine how fulfilled I felt when the page loaded and I finally saw it listed.
Iko Uwais is joining the fourth installment of The Expendables franchise which is currently filming from director Scott Waugh (Need For Speed). The former stuntman is directing from a script by Spenser Cohen therein revised by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly.

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit reports Iko Uwais is being tapped to play the Hard Master in the Paramount/Skydance/All-Spark G.I.Joe off-shoot centered on franchise favorite Snake Eyes.

The first official clip is already making the rounds for Netflix’s forthcoming ten-episode action drama, Wu Assassins. The streamer now adds to the fervor with on official series trailer packing well over a punch with actor Iko Uwais leading the charge, a major mainstream milestone for his career in front of a global audience.
Consider this your 24-hour warning as Netflix now ramps up its campaign this week for the premiere of upcoming martial arts drama, Wu Assassins. The Iko Uwais-led series brings the pain in ten-episodes on August 8 while you can now sample some in the Twitter clip just below. This is me catching up on some trailerage of late with Michael Dowse’s latest action comedy, Stuber. The latest red-band trailer is making the rounds and I’m actually already sold on this one.
Director Michael Dowse’s latest offering, Stuber, was already the subject of some mixed-to-positive reception after screening at SXSW last month. The rip-roaring action comedy, led by actor Kumail Nanjiani and the bustling feats of actor/wrestler Dave Bautista, has since been dated for a July 12 from Fox and now we have a look at the first official trailer above which looks all sorts of fun from what we can gather.
Orson Welles said of friendship that, through it, we get to create the illusion that we are not alone. He said of women that through them men become civilized. I wonder what he would have thought of The Night Comes For Us, a film that illustrates friendship (both its value and fragility) through a harsh, deconstructive lens, and presents a young girl as the catalyst for its protagonist’s quest to civilize himself, that is, to regain his civility after a career of criminality and murder.
For some of us, the last two years have been an eternity with the planned release of forthcoming ensemble actioner, Triple Threat.
