I take issue when a director finds inspiration in a well-known, habitual white nationalist for creative purposes and then actually applies him as an easter egg in what’s supposed to be a taut, escapist espionage action thriller. WU ASSASSINS: Iko Uwais Is Ready To Conquer Netflix With The New Martial Arts Crime Drama Series

‘Tis a mere matter of months until Mile 22 rolls out in theaters ahead of a likely VoD/streaming release for The Night Comes For Us and what lies ahead for Triple Threat – all of which are credits shared by the Indonesian actor and martial arts star, among others. As it stands, he’s already wrapped up a couple of films and now he’s off to service with a cast and crew slowly assembling for Netflix martial arts drama, Wu Assassins, from creators Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures (24), John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies) and Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell on Wheels).
It’s another Uwais headliner with 10 episodes to its order Byron Mann (Altered Carbon) co-starring. The show is set in San Francisco’s Chinatown and is described as a martial arts crime series with supernatural elements. According to the trades including Deadline on Friday, it has Uwais playing the role of Kai Jin, who becomes the latest and last Wu Assassin chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again. Mann, who currently appears in Altered Carbon, makes his return to the streaming service on the new show this time around as Uncle Six.
Wirth serves as showrunner and executive produces with Krantz and Nomadic Pictures’ Oakes and Frislev. Production begins on August 8 with Steven Fung directing the first two episodes, and Krantz to possibly helm another.
Uwais is also dipping full-in on action choreography as well, making 2019 all the more worth looking forward to. So by all means, don’t go anywhere. Stick around and endulge this moment with me!

STUBER: Iko Uwais Joins Dave Bautista And Kumail Nanjiani For The Upcoming Action Comedy
Indonesian action star, actor Iko Uwais is continually rising to the occasion these last several years. His latest stake in Beyond Skyline put him on par for further profusion in film and it now has him on deck to join actor Dave Bautista and title star, actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani for upcoming action comedy, Stuber, for 20th Century Fox.
Details on Uwais’s role remains pending per Patrick Hipes’s exclusive at Deadline which confirms it as so. Michael Dowse is directing the film from a spec script by Tripper Clancy which centers on Bautista as a tenacious detective who commandeers an unsuspecting Uber and its driver, played by Nanjiani, over one night of high jinks and mayhem.
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are producing the film with Jake Wagner serving ad executive producer and Jeremy Kramer is overseeing for Fox.
The film adds to Uwais’s career which has been bustling ever since he catapulted into international cult fame since his starring debut in Gareth Huw Evans’s Merantau, followed by epic crime thriller, The Raid and its splashing 2014 sequel. The Headshot star would soon find himself among the likes of Disney and Lucas film with Star Wars: The Force Awakens prior to the festival hit that Liam O’Donnell’s Beyond Skyline became.
2018 will also be a milestone for the star with the upcoming July 20 release of STXfilms’s thriller Mile 22, followed by to-be-dated releases of Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us, Jesse Johnson’s Triple Threat reuniting Uwais with Man Of Tai Chi star Tiger Chen in addition to starring Tony Jaa, and the Mario Kassar-produced Foxtrot Six from director Randy Korompis.
STXFilms Dates MILE 22 For A Summer 2018 Release
Ronda Rousey’s career with the WWE remains pending following recent headlines. In the meantime, she’s got goals set in cinema and with none other than director Peter Berg and a rousing list of heavy hitters for potential franchise vehicle, Mile 22.
ComingSoon.net reports that production on the new action thriller which also headlines Mark Wahlberg and international superstar Iko Uwais, has wrapped principal photography following shoots in Atlanta, GA and Bogota, Colombia. A newly announced theatrical rollout has been set for July 20, 2018 from STXfilms while the studio further preps for a multiplatform STX release via STXtv and STXsurreal VR, as well as a sequel.
Mile 22 marks the fourth collaboration between Berg and Wahlberg after Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon and Lone Survivor. Written by Graham Roland and Lea Carpenter, the film centers on an elite American intelligence officer who, when aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of a foreign country.
Also starring are John Malkovich and Lauren Cohan with Berg producing for Film 44 and Wahlberg for Closest to the Hole, and Stephen Levinson for Leverage. John Logan Pierson is executive producing.
