FIVE-A-DAY COUNTDOWN: Furie, Maria, The Rhythm Section, Anna, and A Vengeance

Continuing the countdown, we’re naming at least a hundred titles to look out for going into the new year. We named five so far as of Monday, now here’s five more:

Furie: Le Van Kiet’s own female-led action thriller now arrives with actress Veronica Ngo taking the mantle. Set to be released in Vietnam as Hai Phoung, the film captures the plight of an ex-gangster forced back into the underworld upon learning her daughter has been swept away into the organ trafficking market. February 22, 2019 in Vietnam, TBD in the U.S.

Maria: Keeping up with the efforts of Nilalang director Pedring Lopez opened up some major doors to news of a few projects in the past year or so, among which was this recent production starring Christine Reyes. Here, she plays a killer for a deadly criminal underworld outfit left for dead by her own people and immersed into a new life before clashing with her past, forcing her into a whirlwind mission of vengeance. Date pending.

The Rhythm Section: It’s been a slightly longer time coming than preferred as we’ve awaited Reed Morano’s latest assassin novel adaptation, but lately things are finally taking shape. The Blake Lively action starrer takes from Mark Burnell’s 1999 novel, centered on a woman who seeks revenge against those who orchestrated a plane crash that killed her family. Pararmount opens the film wide on February 22, 2019.

Anna: Actress Sasha Luss will make her way in the new year with whatever Luc Besson has been planning for this current production. Nope, no plot details at all yet. The film also has Helen Mirren, Luke Evans and Cillian Murphy for what’s expected to be another action-packed entree ahead of its U.S. release from Lionsgate via Summit. Date pending.

A Vengeance: Wanna see Olivia Wilde beat the fuck out of some domestic abusers? Folks at SXSW were when they spied a look at the film this year for its premiere from director Sarah Daggar-Nickson, and folks in the U.S. can look further to Saban Films and DirecTV for its release early next year. Date pending.

The list continues tomorrow!
