FSFF London X: ARMOR OF GOD 2, BLADE, Project Sifu, And More In The September Line-Up
The tenth London edition of the Fighting Spirit Film Festival kicks off its two day event at the Hackney Picturehouse on September 13. That’s a weekend loaded with feature entries full of special screenings, and nearly three dozen shortfilms including a handful of out-of-competition projects.
Among the lot are 2K presentations of Stephen Norrington’s 1998 Marvel adaptation, Blade, with Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff, and Jackie Chan’s 1991 action adventure refresher from 88 Films, Armor Of God 2: Operation Condor. Rounding out the lot are Shane Kosugi’s latest ninja hit, Seek, along with rising Kazakh action star Timur Baktybayev’s latest follow up to Kung Fu Rookie in Super Courier, Dimitri Logothetis’s Gunner and Ryan Jaeger’s Kung Fu Games.
The festival will also present “Project Sifu,” in partnership with the University of Sheffield. The short documentary focuses on a seminar involving a group of students with little to no training or background who are then introduced to martial arts and basic action choreography, and get to showcase the results. The initiave was backed by several filmmakers from previous FSFF events, according to the festival organizers.
“I was pleasantly surprised that the majority of participants were female,” said Soo Cole, director and co-founder of the Fighting Spirit Film Festival. “Many of the participants will be travelling down from Sheffield to take part on the session talk and to see the results for the first time on a cinema screen. Familiar to FSFF we were helped by Jon Alagoa, Sam Mak, Nathan Geering, Matt Routledge and Tomas Paredes along with some other martial arts professionals from Wing Chun and Judo and hosted by Unrivaled Gym Sheffield.”
There are several great feature picks of my own out of the lot above with the exception of one title I haven’t seen yet and very much look forward to. Beyond that, this line-up looks enough to delight audiences next month.
The official website has more details on the film slates as well as ticketing info.
