Generations Of Indonesian Action Collide In Two New Teasers For GARUDA 7!

Indonesia’s role in action cinema has been well rooted in history, long before Welsh director Gareth Evans set the benchmark for the genre with his most recent successes on films like Merantau and The Raid films. As such, household names like Barry Prima and Willy Dozan (a.k.a. Billy Chong) have earned their fair amount of star power over the past several years before Indonesia’s role in action film production diminished. Well, with the slow-yet-graceful uptick in independent production, both actors are now poised to re-emerge with a well-blended cast of other seasoned action stars and young performers in writer and debut director Baf Sjamsuddin‘s newest action-packed feature adventure, Garuda 7.

The last four years have been nothing short of a journey for Sjamsuddin while working to get this project funded and going. Now, as Sjamsuddin works closer to seeking international sales representation, he and his team over at Lifevolution Pictures are now marking a new milestone in their efforts with two preliminary teasers for the upcoming film now available on via the film’s official Facebook page. Gladly, both teasers serve a heavy-handed taste of things to come, with all featured performers offering a promising glimpse of what martial arts action fans will enjoy.

SYNOPSIS:

As a young nation, Indonesia stores some of its darker, more lucrative secrets within several groups of people and agencies, all with different agendas. Garuda 7 is a fictitious crew, based on several conspiracy theorists within Indonesia, which many of them say consists of the best of the best from the military and civilian intellectuals. This film tries to tap in to the underworld of Indonesian history, with values of patriotism and righteous acts of valor heavily embedded inside.

Prima and Dozan are the highlights of the new teasers, with the company of actors George Rudy, Dede Yusuf, Avent Christie, Fendy Pradhana, in addition to Volland Humonggio, Verdy Bawantha, Adhi Sastro, Adie Prasetya and Mario Christie. The meaty action cast may also extend to action hero Mark Dacascos who is currently filming the new German martial arts action thriller, Ultimate Justice, and while details about his role are under wraps, his popularity as an action star presents a possible hint at a role larger than that of a mere supporting character, in my opinion.

Other names enlisted are Vengeance Of An Assassin star Dan Chupong, Dragonwolf star Kazu Patrick Tang, Ninja 2‘s Tim Man and Ron Smoorenburg, and many more names be officially announced soon. Sjamsuddin wrote the screenplay with writer James Marshall, and is producing the film with Bobby Alatas, Shinta Novita, and martial arts cinema veteran John Ladalski (City War, Kickboxer), the latter who is also coordinating the action with Tanaka (Lady Dragon, Lady Dragon 2).

Filming is tentatively expected to commense in January 2015. Check out the teasers below and subscribe to the page for more news ahead!
