GUNDALA: Joko Anwar’s New Superhero Adaptation Delivers A Sneak Peek

The weekend was bustling for attendees at Indonesia Comic Con where director Joko Anwar was in attendance to pitch what he has thusfar with upcoming superhero adaptation, Gundala. No need to fret over too much mystery about the project now due for a potential Summer 2019 rollout as the director also presented a brief teaser to give audiences a whiff of what’s to come.

One other major announcement touted at the event was the official hailing of actor Abimana Arysatya, best know for lending his fair weight of heroic bloodshed for Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us; Prior to this, the actor also got his fighting chops on in Anggy Umbara’s locally released martial arts thriller, 3. Arysatya will lead the narrative based on “Hasmi”‘s 1969 graphic novel about a scientist who gets struck by lightining and transported to another planet before returning to Earth with the ability to channel thunder from his hands and run as fast as the wind.

The IP was previously adapted in 1981 long prior to short-lived reboot efforts from another director in 2014. Actor Bront Palarae and The Golden Cane Warrior and Killers actress Tara Basro are among the cast joining Arysatya for the new fantasy thriller expected to emerge next summer.
