HERCULES 3D Director Renny Harlin Drops Sequel Clues

Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2 and 12 Rounds director Renny Harlin is lining up post-production on his next hopeful blockbuster, Hercules 3D, starring Kellan Lutz, and also starring Liam McIntyre and Scott Adkins. With all hopes in place for a sequel, Empire got the most recent scoop from the director on what the next hopeful installment would entail.

“Our story is the young Hercules, so I would say that the sequel will probably dive into the Labours.” Harlin says. “As you know, in the mythology Hercules ended up killing his wife and children, and as atonement he got the 12 Labours. So we definitely reference them as a future thing, but he doesn’t go through them because he’s just starting his journey.”

Harlin’s current production is described as being a cross-between Louis Leterrier’s Clash Of The Titans (2010) and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), where the screenplay will focus on Hercules’s unrequited love for the mortal princess of Crete, and rising up against a tyrannical king while coming to terms with being the son of Zeus. The screenplay was co-written by Harlin along with Daniel Giat, Sean Hood and Giulio Steve and is slated for a March 2014 release.
Lutz will join UFC shining star Ronda Rousey among a set of other new faces set to appear with Sylvester Stallone and Co. in The Expendables 3 with director Patrick Hughes for next summer. Adkins, the center of the latest campaign to get him in the Batsuit for Zack Snyder‘s Man Of Steel follow-up superhero blockbuster, Batman Vs. Superman, is currently in Hong Kong shooting Warg with actor/director Jacky Wu Jing. Adkins will also be starring in Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear and Green Street Hooligans: Underground later this year.
