Black-and-white action adventure comedy Hundreds Of Beavers has been acquired by Filmhub. A release date is set for April 15 for rental or purchase via Amazon and Apple, with an exclusive SVOD release via Fandor starting April 19.

The move marks the latest milestone for the team, director Mike Cheslik and star Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, since taking the film on the road via festivals in the last few years. The film is currently a North American tour in select cities.

The production team has also announced a premium pricing plan with rentals at $9.99, and purchases at $19.99.

“We chose Filmhub because they allow us to control our rights, so more money goes directly to the artists. And we’re doing premium pricing because we want Mike and Ryland to make more movies. Hundreds of more movies,” the filmmakers said. “Yes, the best way to see Hundreds of Beavers in a crowded theater, laughing along with a whole bunch of friends and strangers. But if we can’t get to a theater near you, we’re coming to a streaming service very near you.”

“We’re very excited to be working with FilmHub for our premium rentals and purchases, because with FilmHub, indie filmmakers get 80% of the rental and purchase dollar: more money directly to the artists. We see this as a viable model for self-distribution of indie films,” said producer Kurt Ravenwood.

Eric Rowe, Director of Programming at Cineverse said, “Hundreds of Beavers is a perfect example of why independent cinema continues to be so vital. With so much sameness being produced, its daring design, constant inventiveness, and deliriously entertaining conception draw from past and present cinematic lore to deliver something truly unique (and hilarious). The entertainment industry still relies on strategic risk, and this kind of out-of-the-box creative vision, which could be described as silent film homage meets slapstick comedy, is an ideal film for Fandor viewers looking for bold, creative, and entertaining films.”

Cheslik debut-directed the pic from a script he and Tews wrote following their previous success, 2018’s Lake Michigan Monster. Casting Tews as a 19th century drunken applejack forced to cope with an unforgiving wilderness amidst an invasion of beavers colonizing the forest, scoring rave reviews and reactions and winning multiple Bests, whilst screening at over a dozen festivals.

Hundreds Of Beavers also stars Olivia Graves, Doug Mancheski, Luis Rico and Wes Tank. Independent filmmaker and action stylist Jon Truei (The 44th Chamber Of Shaolin) served as fight choreographer, and also partook in the film’s North American screening campaign.

The Fandor deal was negotiated by Tzu-Chin Yu of Acquisitions, on behalf of Cineverse and Kurt Ravenwood of Trapper LLC on behalf of the filmmakers.
