Producers, Original Films’s Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe and Relativity’s Kavanaugh were all set to go until Relativity ended up filing for a Chapter 11 back in August when news of missed loan payments surfaced. As of late, the company is slowly recovering, but there were no minced words from Moritz who, as recently as last week, lashed out against Relativity calling them a “fraud” and a “sham” whilst filing an objection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to ascertain the fate of Hunter Killer.
On Thursday, that all seemed to change with the trades now reporting that lawyers representing Moritz and Kavanaugh have reached a deal for the film which is currently set to star 300 and Gamer star Gerard Butler. Relativity and Original Film are back together on the project for the film’s domestic release with Millenium Films now partnering for its international distribution.
“‘Hunter Killer’ is going to be a terrific movie, and I’m pleased that we were able to reach an agreement to bring the film to audiences,” said Kavanaugh. “Gerry is a close friend and this is yet another step forward for Relativity in its new iteration.”
As reported back in September 2014, Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell, last up to direct Jackie Chan’s The Foreigner, will direct from a script by Peter Craig. Joining are actors Common and Billy Bob Thorton in the respective roles of Rear Admiral John Fisk and Admiral Charles Donnegan, with Butler starring as Joe Glass, the untested captain of the USS Toledo who must foil a nefarious plot to start World War III by a rogue general holding the Russian president hostage in a sinked submarine a thousand feet below sea level under the polar ice cap.
Production is slated for either Spring or Summer. In the meantime, Butler‘s first two appearances going into 2016 will be in Alex Proyas’s Gods Of Egypt in February and Babak Najafi’s London Has Fallen in March.
