Great news for any and all who’ve been riding the Gerard Butler train following the success of Plane with co-lead Mike Colter over at Lionsgate. The actor’s next big swing is set to arrive in time for Memorial Day weekend on May 26 as Angel Has Fallen helmer Ric Roman Waugh’s new action adventure, Kandahar, now lands an official trailer from Open Road Films.
• Rivulet Films and Village Roadshow Pictures are pairing up for a sequel to F. Gary Gray’s 2009 thriller, Law Abiding Citizen. The original starred Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx in the story of a prosecutor in a battle of wits when a frustrated father commits a grisly act of vengeance for the murder of his wife and daughter ten years earlier. Plot details are under wraps but Kurt Wimmer is back to pen the sequel along with Butler who will produce with his partners via G-Base. (Deadline)
Wrapped reportedly as of last month, filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh’s (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen, Shot Caller) new action thriller, Kandahar, has a pair of photos currently circulating online, two of which you can view above. The film marks a rare opportunity for a Hollywood production shoot in Saudi Arabia, billed as one of the first big-budgeted studio titles to shoot in the region.
Some of the best news this month is coming right out of the European Film Market where deals are being made and casting is underway for numerous projects, developing or otherwise – namely the long awaited Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera, the long-awiated sequel to the inaugural hit 2018 heist thriller which starred Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The sequel was greeinlit a month after the film’s release with an official title etched in the following year.
Principal photography has since wrapped in Savannah, Georgia on action thriller, Chase, as of May, and with word out of Cannes that Voltage Pictures is repping international rights and will introduce to buyers immediately, with first-look footage to follow shortly. Voltage will co-rep US rights with CAA.
Indeed, Millenium Media will ‘fall’ even further with a fourth installment into their Fallen franchise with Greenland star Gerard Butler headlining Night Has Fallen. The actor will also reteam with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh back at the helm with Robert Mark Kamen penning the script.

Gerard Butler is off to the races with his latest involvement with STX at EFM in Berlin for Remote Control, which has been in the works for more than a decade. The project was at one point shopped to Sony back in 2009.
Leave it to the cinematic stylings of Ric Roman Waugh to help bring the ‘Fallen’ trilogy full circle with the upcoming Lionsgate release, Angel Has Fallen. At long last, director Christian Gudegast’s highly anticipated Den Of Thieves sequel has an official with Den Of Thieves: Pantera, currently making the sales rounds at Cannes for eOne’s Sierra/Affinity. The sequel was announced last February in the weeks that followed the first film’s January rollout from STXfilms, firstly developing in 2003 between a few studios.
Last weekend saw big news out of Berlin with actor Gerard Butler set to star in upcoming disaster pic, Greenland. STXinternational is repping the film intermatonally for buyers in Berlin and releasing in the UK.
Donovan Marsh’s latest, Hunter Killer, is now out with an official trailer ahead of its October 26 release. Arne L. Schmidt and Jamie Moss adapted the screenplay from the novel “Firing Point” by George Wallace and Don Keith.
It’s fair to say at this point that director Donovan Marsh’s new submarine war thriller, Hunter Killer, has seen quite its share of drama by now. The residual upheaval from the fallout at Relativity Media over bankruptcy in the last three years has since landed the film a new home at Summit Premiere with a theatrically release set for October 26.
