KANDAHAR Unveils A Pair Of Stills From The New Gerard Butler Action Epic
Wrapped reportedly as of last month, filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh’s (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen, Shot Caller) new action thriller, Kandahar, has a pair of photos currently circulating online, two of which you can view above. The film marks a rare opportunity for a Hollywood production shoot in Saudi Arabia, billed as one of the first big-budgeted studio titles to shoot in the region.
The cast is headlined by Gerard Butler, Ali Fazal and Navid Negahban, with a script penned by Waugh and co-writer Mitchell LaFortune. According to the official logline, Butler leads the international thriller as Tom Harris, an undercover CIA operative, stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. He must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding the elite special forces tasked with hunting them down.
Kandahar is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Brendon Boyea for Thunder Road, G-Base’s Butler along with Alan Siegel, and Christian Mercuri of Capstone, the latter which is also repping international sales rights at EFM; CAA Media Finance is repping domestic sales rights.
David Haring, Scott LaStaiti, Ruzanna Kegeyan, Andrea Dimity and Jonathan Fuhrman are all serving as exec producers on the pic.
Butler, who can be seen in the recently-released Joe Carnahan crime pic, Copshop, is also on par to reunite with Waugh for a sequel to STXfilms’ Greenland, as well as reprise his role in Christian Gudegast’s recently casted-up Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera.
