IF TOKUGAWA IEYASU BECAME PRIME MINISTER Trailer: When An AI Takeover Tops Pandemic Calamity
Director Hideki Takeuchi is two-for-two this week with titles on our radar. For this, we now turn to the upcoming oddball sci-fi antics in If Tokugawa Ieyasu Became Prime Minister.
The film stars Kakegurui and Godzilla Minus One actress Minami Hamabe, and penned by Yuichi Tokunaga whose script is based on Akihito Manabe’s 2021 novel. Set in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hamabe plays an on-site reporter covering Japan’s federal top-down revamp using holographic AI supplements bringing back Sengoku-era warlords. In the course of her work, she discovers something happening in the background of Japan’s new government.
Hamabe is joined by Revolver Lily and The Yin Yang Master star Mansai Nomura who stars in the title role of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Toho will release the movie in theaters on July 26.
