KHMERICAN: Jimmy Chhiu Tackles Asian American Identity For New Crime Thriller Short
I’ve always followed stunt professional and actor Jimmy Chhiu for his feats on the screen and behind the scenes. Nowadays, he’s pushing forward a new directing venture with Khmerican, a new crime thriller shortfilm he’s launched for crowdsourcing via Kickstarter.
“Khmerican” is not just a reflection of my own life, but also a portrayal of the experiences shared by those who grew up alongside me. It’s not all Crazy Rich Asians—for many of us, the real story is struggle. Not just with money, but with belonging, with identity, with being enough.” It delves into the harsh realities of violence, poverty, and shattered dreams that defined our upbringing.
