Loren Avedon And Keith Vitali Are Neither Retreating Nor Surrendering As They Announce BLOOD BROTHERS 2
Actor and martial artist Loren Avedon took to social media over the weekend to announce the development of a sequel to No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers, the 1990 action thriller which also starred actor Keith Vitali (Wheels On Meals), along with Rion Hunter and Mark Russo. The new movie would reunite Avedon and Vitali for the first time since headlining director Lucas Lowe’s installment of Hong Kong-produced American martial arts crossover action flick from Seasonal Films, which centered on two warring brothers who must put aside their differences to avenge their father’s death at the hands of a Colombian terrorist, played by Hunter.
The No Retreat, No Surrender franchise began with 1985’s No Retreat, No Surrender with Kurt McKinney and the then-nascent star Jean-Claude Van Damme. Hong Kong cinema mainstay Corey Yuen directed the first two installments of the franchise, the second of which swapped McKinney for a new lead in Avedon for 1987’s No Retreat, No Surrender 2: Raging Thunder, with Max Thayer, Hong Kong then-rising star Cynthia Rothrock of Magic Crystal and Yes, Madam! fame, and I Come In Peace star Matthias Hues. All three films became par for the course in trekking action cimema envisioned via Hong Kong into Western productions, paving the way for more films from the likes of Lowe and veteran filmmaker Godfrey Ho, whose resumé, north of 150 directing credits bookended with 2000 action thriller, Manhattan Chase, with Avedon and Rothrock.
Keith W. Strandberg served as one of the writers of all three films, solo-writing the first and third installments, as well as producer on Blood Brothers alongside former Shaw Brothers cohort Ng See-Yuen who also produced the first film. The new project is in its early stages as Avedon, per Facebook, and Vitali are “actively looking for a script and funding,” so further casting and crewing info remain pending. “3 generations of fans it’s a slam dunk guaranteed money maker. We’re gonna bring back ground pounding Martial Arts action in film. If you are a serious investor and realize this is a great opportunity DM me” Avedon added.
