LOVE KILLS In The Official Trailer For The New Dark Brazilian Romantasy Thriller
At once part of the showcase at this year’s Cannes Blood Window, director Luiza Shelling Tubaldini’s new Brazilian romantic horror thriller now arises with Love Kills. A co-production between Warner Bros. Discovery and world sales agent Filmland Internacional, Love Kills stars Thais Lago, Gabriel Stauffer, and Iuri Saraiva.
In São Paulo’s crack-ravaged downtown, a young Black vampire, Helena, haunts a dirty cafe, captivating a naive waiter. As he uncovers her secrets and the city’s underbelly, he’s drawn into a perilous world of immortal intrigue, challenging his mortality.
Tubaldini, who also produced thrillers like Vicente Amorrim’s Motorrad and Yakuza Princess, directs from her own script which is based on Daniel Beyruth’s 2023 graphic novel publication. Variety‘s John Hopwell covered the line-up at the time in part sharing a word with Tubaldini who described the film as a trans allegory through a horror lens:
Inspired by “one of the most amazing graphic novels released recently in Brazil,” Shelling tells Variety, “Love Kills” “explores the vampire universe as a metaphor for trauma, exclusion and self identity. The film addresses abusive relations from the perspective of marginalized women, with a thriller element. Vampires are a proxy to being trans,” says Shelling.
Love Kills opens in Brazil cinemas on October 3. Catch the newly released English subtitled trailer below!
