LUGER: Catch The Trailer For Bruno Martin’s Crackling Crime Thriller Debut!
Bruno Martin’s directorial debut crime thriller, Luger, just had its day at Fantastic Fest and even took home the Grand Prix Crossovers at the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival. The film is now poised for its premiere in the Òrbita section of the 58th Sitges Film Festival with a plentiful arrival of cast and crew on hand for its Spanish premiere.
Set in a fictional industrial park called “Santos 117” and shot on the outskirts of Madrid, Luger is a high-tension buddy movie. The film follows the hellish day of Rafa (David Sainz, known for Malviviendo) and Toni (Mario Mayo, from La casa de papel), two hustlers hired by Ángela (Ana Turpin, from A.M.A.), an attorney with questionable ethics, to recover a stolen car. What they find in the trunk—a mysterious safe box containing a World War II relic—catapults them into a spiral of violence, impossible decisions, and murky deals in working-class Spain.
The film’s aesthetic proposal transports us to 80s and 90s settings, marked by a strong industrial culture. Director Bruno Martín explains the visual and narrative references, which combine the pulse of the beat ’em up video game with high-tension film noir:
“I don’t want to forget that late 80s video games, like Double Dragon, Final Fight, or Tough Turf (especially the latter), are direct culprits of the narrative and aesthetics I try to capture in the film.”
Luger’s direction draws from thriller benchmarks like Fabián Bielinsky (Nine Queens), Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), the energy of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank), the pulse of Walter Hill (The Warriors), and the irreverence of Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs).
