Mads Mikkelsen Joins DOCTOR STRANGE

Entertainment Weekly is kicking the week off to a proper start with a stunning reveal of actor Benedict Cumberbatch in costume for Scott Derrickson’s latest, Marvel’s Doctor Strange. The new photos now surfacing can be viewed here while EW also confirms the addition of actor Mads Mikkelsen in the role of the main villain.

The article states that Marvel’s own Kevin Feige and the film’s executive producer Stephen Broussard are staying mum on just who Mikkelsen is playing though they are describing the nature of his role in the film to a small degree for curious fans. “Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect,” says Feige. “[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”

Broussard leapt in with regard to further details on who Mikkelsen will play, addint “I’ve seen lots of names thrown around,… “No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.” I suppose fans familar with the comic book itself may have their own ideas about Mikkelsen’s likeness to any number of villains in the acclaimed comic.

Derrickson is directing from a script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly that will focus on the central character – a surgeon whose hands are crippled in a car accident and forcing him on an epic journey for a miracle cure that will open him to a world of magic and sorcerey. The long-awaited phase three title opens on November 4, 2016.
