Okay, Here Goes…
Trigger Warning: I talk opinion in areas pertinent to politics and criminal justice with respect to current events, and other matters of a sensitive nature.
Typically around this time of the year I pick up my keyboard and start dillydalling between my thoughts and fingers on what to say in reflection of all that’s happened in the preceding year. I often look toward these write-ups with an air of optimism that by the holiday season, I’ll have a roster of things I can deliniate as points of positivity and progress to coat a lot of the hardship that usually comes with life and living.
To tell you the truth, there’s very little that’s positive that I can defer to. That’s not to say they aren’t worth celebrating. I still have my parents, the people who I can – on some level or another – still call friends, what’s left of my health, and my humanity. The latter is certainly something that’s become way easier for folks to lose track of and get careless with, particularly with all of the world’s political woes clocked accordingly in our timelines when we log in.
The last five years have proven to be the most eye-opening in this regard, especially on matters of genocide and politics here and abroad. As sure as I am that others have, I learned the hard way that too many of my peers are actual fascists, and alibis to other fascists self-incriminated by proximity and intent. I learned that you can’t change a fascist’s mind no matter how friendly they are with you from the offset. To the latter, I learned that the more you hang on to someone out of some haphazard hope that your goodwill and ideals will appeal to the good nature of someone openly embracing harmful ideology, the more vulnerable you make yourself to their harm. I learned this lesson more formatively last year, and on both sides of this specific moment, it’s become so clear how many more folks in my circles and those adjacently have had to learn this themselves.
Believe me, the last thing I wanna do is talk about anything other than movies and good news on all personal fronts, but as a fellow human being living in this world, I’ve had to confront what ails us somehow. This is why I’ve tended to use my Instagram page, often taking to stories to post for my own interest in current events – a lot of which deals with this current administration. It’s hard to let go of, too, mainly given the daily cavalcade of trauma that we’re being dealt ever since the inauguration, and all of the actions taken by the dictator-from-day-one-in-chief that have all snowballed from one Constitutional and economic crisis to the next, whether it was the tariffs to the goddamn ICE kidnappings of legally protected persons and citizens including many who’ve never committed a violent crime, or the current shitshow marathon permeating around my government’s malfeasant handling of the Epstein Files.
Admittedly, it’s been fascinating as well to see some of the MAGA suddenly have second thoughts about the prevalent traits of the political party they’ve virtually crippled, or when reflecting on the monsters they helped re-elect as president. However, the damage has already been done, and with three years left (if that), there’s only more to expect. That’s what you get from a power-mad grifter who’s spent his life taking advantage of people on a lower economic tier than him, while couching himself in a millieu of corporate greed, malfeasance, and entitlement and a deep-seated disdain for anyone who he considers “garbage”.
It makes zero sense that this unqualified pariah, now currently the center of the biggest scandal to ever hit the White House, was ever allowed to run for office, let alone become President twice. He’s a white nationalist. He’s all but made himself culpable for trying to steal elections. He’s torn families apart at the southern border. He’s exacerbating a genocide in the Middle East. He deliberately allowed a global pandemic to kill nearly a million of us on his watch – including my sister who my family and I still miss to this day. He emboldened a South African plutocrat to try and cripple our system under the guise of “cutting waste”. He’s gutting education and programs for victims of trafficking. He’s jacking up the cost of healthcare for millions of Americans in the New Year. He’s also a convicted felon ruled guilty for multiple counts of fraud, and civilly liable for sexually assaulting a woman in the 1990s. And, to that end, his name is now plastered as the central, most crucial piece of the puzzle to the very files that now implicate him for sex crimes against children.
I fucking hate this asshole, and I don’t wanna talk about him. But, I will, at least once a year on this platform when I can let off a little steam to cope. I have to. It’s kind of important for me to, anyway, seeing as it wasn’t that long ago that my name was roped in by a handful of cloddish entertainment industry professionals and listed as someone no one should work with. Mind you, I don’t work in this industry, but when it comes to MAGA mentality, not much matters there. Facts included.
Additionally, they did this in defense of a man murdered by the very kind of asset he used to criminalize people of color while touring college campuses, in conjunction with still validating the “worth” and “cost” of “some gun deaths” to protect guns. And no, I shed no tears for white nationalist influencers or their families. They’re some of the biggest cancers on our society, and for as long as I’ve been screeching on my own social media page about gun violence to the point of losing friends even long before what so many of us saw happen back in September, are you really going to fucking sit there with your goddamn phone and a chest full of audacity and tell me that I and other likeminds who’ve been warning you about the consequences for going down this path are the problem??…
Wait… don’t answer that. We all know you will. More than a cosign of mere human nature, this is purely along the lines of what the MAGA cult is, and does. The lack of accountability is as prevalent here as the air we breathe, and the white nationalist sentiment our own Vice President made clear and present most recently at America Fest. We see it everyday – that is, those of us who actually see things and not just the bubble we reside in. Those fools are too busy mired in the fallout of Epstein, twisting themselves in knots to make it seem like everyone else on “the other side” is defending former President Bill Clinton for some reason, despite all proof to the contrary…
Fucking idiots.
Again, this site wasn’t launched for the purpose of talking politics, but I can afford to so at least once a year when I write these particular opinion rants. I have to. It’s the most I can do – at least now – to ward off any chance of helping keep the martial arts movie fan space from merging with MAGA and becoming one big shithole-shaped circle. Indeed with some of the action stars we write about chiming in with all their pride and joy with the current subject of the Epstein Files now sitting in the Oval Office, that effort becomes a little harder. Still, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
I’m between blanks at the moment as I write this. So many of my thoughts are unrehearsed here and jumbled up with just a handful of corrections and grammatical fixes along the way as you’re reading them – if that – and I thank you for your attention to these matters. My hope is that at some point from now I can write and better express more optimistically about the future and what it holds in a world that no longer tolerates white nationalism and genocide, expending our humanity at the behest of mealy-mouthed businessmen and the promise of a check that will never come. In the meantime, that’s the world we’re living in right now. It’s the world you’re living in. And, as okay as it is to be afraid to speak up, if you’re reading this, for what it’s worth, I hope my voice lifts yours up to.
I wish all of you reading this a happy and peaceful holiday season, and an equally ebullient transition into a new year with hopefully better prospects ahead. Please be safe, take care of yourselves and each other, I’ll be see all in 2026.
P.S.: My birthday is on January 4. If you’re feeling generous, feel free to make a donation to my Buy Me A Coffee page. Otherwise, follow me on Facebook, BlueSky and Instagram, and let’s get to know each other.
Native New Yorker. Been writing for a long time now, and I enjoy what I do. Be nice to me!
