PANJI TENGKORAK Trailer Revealed For New Indonesian Animated Thriller
Indonesian dark fantasy and comic lore is getting the big screen treatment this summer with animated fantasy actioner, Panji Tengkorak. The film is directed by Daryl Wilson in his feature debut based on Hans Djaladara’s 1968 comic.
The 15th century tale centers on Panji, a warrior cursed with immortality after selling his soul to black magic to avenge his wife’s death. When an old warrior who makes his plea for Panji to help him retrieve a stolen sacred heirloom believed to be the key to eliminating black magic, Panji accepts, and is soon thrust into a long war between two kingdoms, revealing the truth of his dark past.
Wilson’s film marks the latest effort at bringing the comic to screen with previous theatrical and TV adaptations dating as far back as 1971. Falcon Pictures is heading up the film’s August 28 release with a voice cast led by Denny Sumargo, Donny Damara, Aghniny Haque, Donny Alamsyah, Aisha Nurra Datau, Candra ‘El Metronomo’ Mukti, Cok Simbara, Prit Timothy, Tanta Ginting and Revaldo.
The first official trailer arrived on Monday as well and I love how it mirrors exactly the kind of trendy action and violence that fans have come to know and love about Southeast Asian thrillers in the same vein.
Check it out below and don’t forget to hit the CC switch for subtitles. It’ll say “Indonesian” but the subs will be in English.
