RED: Private Sector Work Goes Ballistic In New Action Short Starring Miki Ishikawa
Stunt professional and filmmaker Josh Mabie’s work of late can be seen in Amazon series “Countdown,” and even in films like upcoming actioner Atlas King or even Adrian Grunberg’s latest, Protector, which is now available (my review is up if you’re keen). In the meantime, you can check out some of his more shortform-related independent action jewels online, particularly over at Rogue Origin Films underwhich he’s been creating for about half my time as a writer.
His latest outing behind the lens arrived on Friday in the form of Red, which he wrote and directed. Starring Miki Ishikawa, Johnathan Hedrick and Mike Brown, Red is an original action short in the vein of Sicario, and follows “a career military woman who gets pulled into chaos when her first mission in the private sector goes south.” In a major twist by the end, “she unwillingly finds out the hard way that the private sector can be more risky than expected.”
Mabie and Ishikawa also produced the project with performances also by Josh Han, Austin Pavich, Satoshi Ishii, Mike Ferragamo, and Eric Malett. The cinematography was also done by Kaiser Tin-U, and by Johnny X Wang who I met some years back when he was still a New Yorker. Swell dude!
I gotta add – it wasn’t too long ago that I caught up with a shortfilm that was sent to me some moons ago. For this, projects like that are why I’m thankful for creatives like Mabie and the folks at Rogue Origins, especially when it comes to tactical action and stunts. Gems like these are building blocks for something bigger, and I aspire to see that in Mabie in the not too distant future. Fingers crossed, of course!
The writing here is great here too, particularly in its brisk build-up from what comes after hearing terms like “Whiskey” and “Tango”. On that note, I’ll let Red do the rest. Check it out below:
Native New Yorker. Been writing for a long time now, and I enjoy what I do. Be nice to me!
