Independent filmmaker Nathan Quattrini has a brand new work reel now available on his YouTube channel. A purveyor of film and camerawork since 2007, he’s already directed a few shortfilms which have already earned some accolades in the film festival circuit within the last several years, including his 2009 Action On Film Festival award-winning short, Five Minutes Flat.
At the moment now, Quattrini‘s main focus is cinematography, and he’s ready to fly out, network and connect with as many people as he can to provide his services, which also include fellow performers and filmmakers in the action industry. He especially attributes his love of Hong Kong action as a major contribution to his experiences and major lessons and motives in film.
“After seeing Rumble in the Bronx, I always wanted to make a fight scene.” says Quattrini, “Then when I talked about making a short film with my friends, I took advantage and inserted a fight scene into it. None of us knew what we were doing, but I got hooked on it. It took years to learn how to film, direct, and edit fights to make them look ‘right’ and entertain. Unlike most, I didn’t study hundreds of fight scenes and rip them apart to analyze them, I developed more slowly but learned to just shoot what felt right to my eyes. Sure I’ve had some inspirations and influences, but sometimes you need to just do it your way and let that develop naturally, even if it takes longer.”.
He continued, “Working with other like minded people is definitely my goal. I’ve learned and done most of these action projects as almost a one man crew, and I’ll tell you once you work with a group of like minded people with action in mind, it’s like getting to drive a Ferrari versus riding a bike. I hope to either join a pre-existing team, or form a crew with some I work with occasionally now and new people I haven`t met yet.”.
