Report: ‘John Wick’ Spin-Off Adds Korean Action Star Jung Doo-Hung
Multiple Korean news sources are reporting the addition of actor and martial artist Jung Doo-hung to the cast of action thriller, John Wick Presents: Ballerina. The Len Wiseman-directed John Wick spin-off joins Jung with a cast led prominently by Ana de Armas (No Time To Die, Ghosted) in the title role.
The news comes after John Wick franchise shepherd Chad Stahelski was brought onto the project earlier this year for additional photogrpahy to bolster the film’s action. Details on Jung’s character remain under wraps, per the reports at multiple South Korean news sources including MBC.
de Armas stars from a script by Shay Hatten for a story set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and John Wick: Chapter 4. The film centers on Rooney, a young dancer trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma who sets out to avenge the murder of her family.
Rounding out the cast are Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and franchise star Keanu Reeves, along with David Castañeda and Sharon Duncan-Brewster. The film is set to release on June 6, 2025 from Lionsgate.
The John Wick franchise marks Jung’s first foray into a Hollywood film property on screen. In the years prior, Jung leveled up behind the scenes as one of South Korea’s most promising and prominent stunt performers, coordinators, actors and action directors.
The addition of Jung also sounds par for the course for a franchise that’s banked heavily off of casting big name stars proficient in action and screenfighting, including Daniel Bernhardt, Mark Dacascos, Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman, Marko Zaror, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Donnie Yen.
A select filmography of acting, and stunt credits Jung shares includes Beat (1997), Shiri (1999), No Blood, No Tears (2002), Champion (2002), Natural City (2003), Arahan (2004), Fighter In The Wind (2004), A Bittersweet Life (2005), City Of Violence (2006), Dachimawa Lee (2008), Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard (2009), I Saw The Devil (2010), G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), Red 2 (2013), The Last Knights (2015), Veteran (2015), Netflix’s “Sense8,” and Fist and Furious (2019).
Lionsgate teased the new movie during CinemaCon back in April, including its official title reveal. The studio further announced a fifth installment into the John Wick canon back in May.
