Well, it looks like Star Wars fan fare is back in full bloom now that we are less than two years away from a new trilogy, and just a few days away from some amazing announcements set to take place this Sunday on May 4. That said, as always, we still have the awesome content creators of the interwebs to look forward to as they devote themselves to their favorite franchise with their own shorts and various projects, including filmmaker Corey Vidal who just shared his latest fan contribution, Clash At The Cantina.
The short is actually the latest in an on-going comedy series featuring Vidal with fellow actor Craig Benzine, and filmed with the participation of Lucasfilm Limited at Disney Interactive Studios, which is something that the episode stunt coordinator, traceur and YouTube personality Devin White also got a real kick out of in being a part of the creative process. “Oh you have no idea! [laughs]”, says White. “It’s one thing to be told to choreograph a fight. But when that fight begs the question ‘How do you fight something you can’t touch?’ It gets a lot more exciting, for me at least. Plus, having a fully built Cantina to play around with was really cool.”.
White also offered some insight in telling Film Combat Syndicate what it was that he loved the most about the Star Wars universe prior to working on this new project with Vidal, saying, “I just watched the original trilogy for the first time early in this year and it has given me a whole new perspective. I really liked the, sort of, misunderstood role those who practiced the Force were shown in Episode 4. It really grounded the Jedi and Sith which I loved as it made them seem more cunning when they ended up being what decided the war.”.
He continues, “There are so many stories in the Star Wars universe that it’s great being able to see so many different perspectives that still fit in with the established franchise. My buddy Sal Perales lives Star Wars so he’d probably be the person I need to go to more to indulge even further. But at any rate, I suppose my favorite part of the universe is that in Episode 4, Jedi and Sith aren’t necessarily respected nor entirely feared.”.
It may be a long two years, folks. And aspiring film professionals are ready to embrace either side of The Force in bringing out their best work to show love for a franchise that immortalized a genre with the stroke of a lightsaber in 1977.
