RZA’s ONE SPOON OF CHOCOLATE: Shameik Moore Lays Waste With A Vengeance In The New Official Teaser!
Following last year’s outing at Tribeca, filmmaker The RZA (The Man With The Iron Fists) is stepping out this week with the launch of his own distro label for the now titled RZA’s One Spoon Of Chocolate. The film stars Shameik Moore, Paris Jackson, Blair Underwood, RJ Cyler, Emyri Crutchfield, Jason Isbell, Harry Goodwins, Rockmond Dunbar, Michael Harney, Johnell Young, Isaiah Hill, and James Lee Thomas.
“RZA’s One Spoon of Chocolate” follows Unique (Shameik Moore, “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” and voice of Miles Morales in the Spider-Verse films), a veteran and ex-convict seeking a fresh start in the small town of Karensville. After an altercation with a gang of hostile locals, he starts to suspect they have something to do with the disappearance of young Black men in the area – including his cousin. As he digs for the truth, he finds himself the target of not just the gang but the local sheriff’s office, whose involvement in the disappearances may be even more sinister. Instead of waiting for his turn to be picked off, Unique and those closest to him (Paris Jackson, RJ Cyler) decide to fight back in this sharply satirical and stylish action thriller from the visionary leader of the Wu-Tang Clan.
An official trailer is now online as well, incumbent with the news of The RZA’s launch of 36 Cinema Distribution with Quentin Tarantino according to Deadline on Thursday. The label is partnering with Variance Films for the film’s May 1 release, with 35mm presentations for select engagements, including a two-week run at LA’s Vista Theatre.
According to the report, the release will also serve as the launchpad for future events presenting “new releases and classic titles for both traditional theatrical runs as well as event theatrical screenings.” All these are being developed with more titles added as we speak according to the report.
“My new film, RZA’s One Spoon of Chocolate, is my fourth feature film as a director,“ said RZA. “It embodies my journey as a filmmaker, to date, mixing action, drama, thrills, and substance. The first draft started over thirteen years ago, and wasn’t completed until 2023. After two years of filmmaking, we are ready to show this film to the audience. I believe this film is best suited for theaters because theaters capture our imagination while holding our attention. At its core, RZA’s One Spoon of Chocolate is a story of a young man’s journey to better his life’s circumstances, while everything around him is shaken. All of our journeys revolve around the choices we make and how we choose to live with them. The film is both timeless and timely. Get ready for thrills, chills, and some bone-cracking action, followed by a spoonful of thought provoking substance.”
