S.S. Rajamouli’s BAAHUBALI: THE EPIC: Both Parts Announced For October Theatrical Re-Release
Director S.S. Rajamouli revealed on Thursday a worldwide release of his soaring period actioner, Baahubali: The Epic. Both films – 2015’s Baahubali: The Beginning, and 2017’s Baahubali: The Conclusion will be woven together and presented on October 31, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam languages.
Celebrating the films’ tenth anniversary, Prahbas headlines the cast in dual capacity for Rajamouli’s duology, which centers on a warrior prince who learns of his father’s revered legacy, and of the men who betrayed him in battle. The cast also lists Rana Daggubati and Anushka Shetty, along with Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Subaraju, and Nassar.
Both versions are currently streaming wherever the films are legally licensed, including on Netflix which contains several version in different durations and each presented in a different language; Interestingly, only the first film includes English and Spanish dub.
The Baahubali movies came at a time when I was diving deep into Indian films to spread my viewing purview as a critic. Packed with sprawling love plots woven into tales of intrigue, political skullduggery and insane action sequences characteristic of big-scale Indian films, Prahbas and the cast delivered something more fun than anyone in the Western world who doesn’t follow Southasian films expected. That Baahubali is now getting the full-tilt feature re-release treatment later this year should be an inviting feat for moviegoers.
A TV series was announced at one point which never came to fruition, and so it’s anyone’s guess if those plans are still brewing, which did make me wonder if this re-release is going to be a marketing preamble for it. Time will tell, but do check out the poster below!
