SHADOW FIST 3 To Clinch Up SDCC’s Superhero Kung Fu Extravaganza On Thursday!
Actors and martial artists Robert Samuels (Red Wolf, Made In Chinatown) and Ron Hall (Triple Impact, Bloodsport 2) will make landfall this Thursday for the panel at the 27th Annual San Diego Comic-Con Superhero Kung Fu Extravaganza. The pair will join a round of guests to be featured on the panel hosted by film expert and author Ric Meyers, film producer and festival programmer Frank Djeng, and host of YouTube’s “The Movie Dojo,” Preston Downey.
Both Samuels and Hall met in Hong Kong during their heyday, pursuing their dreams, forming a lasting friendship for over three decades. They have traversed the action film landscape in that same period, working as actors, stuntmen, fight choreographers, and filmmakers, with each commited to raising the Black profile in a genre in which they feel is both commercially viable and grossly underserved.
“Black people love martial arts movies, but the African American presence in these films are anemic. It’s time to change that,” says Hall.
Samuels blazed a trail in the 1990s after years of hustling his way into the Hong Kong Stuntman Association as its first African American member, and working under the stewardship of Sammo Hung. Over the years he partnered with Robert Jefferson to launch R4 Films LLC to produce a bevy of independently-made action film short projects and collaborations. His latest, shortfilm hit, “Shadow Fist 3” which also stars Hall along with Roxalinda Vazquez has won of over thirty international filmmaking awards, and will screen for the panel on Thursday.
Hall adds: “Samuels’ ‘Shadow’s Fist 3’ honors and celebrates the legacy of the beloved Shaw Brothers films while looking towards the future. By paying homage to the past, it paves the way for a new generation of fans to experience classic thrills in a fresh manner. Highlighted by an African American perspective, this film serves as an exciting preview of the innovative projects that the visionary filmmakers have in store.”
