SIERRA MADRE: First Look Still Reveals Kiefer Sutherland In New Action Thriller, Additional Casting Announced
Emmy winner Kiefer Sutherland’s new action thriller, Sierra Madre, is making the rounds in Las Vegas this week with casting addition as of Tuesday. Production is underway in Colombia as well, with world sales firm Highland Film Group repping the film on the ground at AFM this week, showcasing a first look still from the film which you can view above.
When Captain Jordan Wright (Kiefer Sutherland) and his squadron are granted leave from their mission to attend a crewmate’s wedding in Mexico, festivities are interrupted by a cartel’s murderous descent on the small village. As Jordan attempts to lead his remaining men to safety, war breaks out between his squad and the cartel. Now under siege in the enemy’s deadly stronghold, Jordan has no other option but to engage in a full-scale battle to save the only family he has.
Also starring are renowned Mexican actor Omar Chaparro (Warner Bros.’ Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Netflix’s original Series “Thursday’s Widows”), and acclaimed young Colombian actress Laura Osma (Netflix’s “El Chapo,” Prime Video’s Pimpinero: Blood and Oil, Sky Original’s “Blocco 181”), as well as Ashton Sanders (Barry Jenkins‘ Oscar winner Moonlight, Antoine Fuqua’s Equalizer II), Tommy Martinez (ABC’s “Good Trouble,” The CW’s “Riverdale”), Solly McLeod (ITV’s mini-series “Tom Jones,” HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” Viggo Mortensen’s The Dead Don’t Hurt), Laird Akeo (Paradise City starring Bruce Willis and John Travolta) and Orlando Pineda (Netflix’s “Griselda”).
Justin Chadwick (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, The Other Boleyn Girl), directs from a screenplay by Ian Mackenzie Jeffers (The Grey) and Delbert Hancock. James Keach (Walk the Line), Robert Stein (Sony Pictures’ The Call) and Griff Furst (Devil’s Peak) are producing. Trevor Albert is exec producing, as are Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier are exec producing for Highland Film Group, which is also co-financing the pic.

Omar Chaparro is a powerhouse in the entertainment industry, both in Mexico and the U.S. Hispanic market, with an enormous social media presence, boasting millions of loyal followers. His breakout role on the American screen came in the independent, award-winning Stuck, starring alongside Giancarlo Esposito and Ashanti. More recently, he starred in Warner Bros.’ Pokémon: Detective Pikachu opposite Ryan Reynolds, Suki Waterhouse, and Rita Ora, directed by Rob Letterman. Additionally, his standout projects include Netflix’s original film Como Caído del Cielo, where he portrayed the legendary Mexican recording artist and actor Pedro Infante, and Netflix’s original hit series “Las Viudas de los Jueves” (“Thursday’s Widows”). Currently, he can be seen weekly hosting the Mexican version of The Masked Singer, “¿Quién es La Máscara?”
Recognized for her exceptional range and captivating performances, Laura Osma is establishing a distinguished career with notable roles across international platforms. Her latest credits include the lead role in the series “Blocco 181” for Sky Italia as well as key appearances in “Goles en Contra” (“The Final Score”), “Historia de un crimen: Colmenares,” and “El Chapo” for Netflix, among others. She currently stars in Pimpinero: Blood and Oil directed by Andi Baiz, further solidifying her reputation as one of the most promising Latin American talents of her generation.
Ashton Sanders appeared in F. Gary Gray’s drama Straight Outta Compton and Barry Jenkins cast him as the teenage lead in A24’s Oscar winning Moonlight opposite Mahershala Ali and Janelle Monae. Sanders next appeared opposite Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal in director Antoine Fuqua’s Equalizer II. He appeared in director Shaka King’s drama Judas & the Blood Messiah released by Warner Bros. and the following year was cast as Bobby Brown in director Kassie Lemmons‘ I Want to Dance with Somebody, a celebration of the life and music of Whitney Huston.
Tommy Martinez will next be seen starring in Peacock’s “Laid” with Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet. He previously starred in Freeform’s “Good Trouble,” a spinoff of the hit series “The Fosters,” with Maia Mitchell. Additional credits include Apple’s “Mosquito Coast” starring Justin Theroux, Prime Video’s “Hunters” starring Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, the CW’s iconic drama series “Riverdale” with Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes and Cole Sprouse; and Showtime’s “Shameless” starring William H. Macy and Jeremy Allen White.
Solly McLeod is best known for the Sky television series “The Rising,” HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” the indie film Jericho Ridge and Starz’ “Outlander.” In 2023 he starred in “Tom Jones” (ITV and PBS) and The Dead Don’t Hurt (written and directed by Viggo Mortensen). Most recently, he was seen in Nick Hamm’s film William Tell.
Laird Akeo’s credits include Chuck Russell’s action thriller Paradise City starring Bruce Willis and John Travolta, Slamdance Film Festival film Chaperone, 7000 Miles starring Wendie Malick, and the upcoming crime drama Persona.
Orlando Pineda starred in the critically acclaimed, Emmy nominated Netflix TV mini-series “Griselda” led by Sofia Vergara. Most recently the Colombian born actor was seen in Netflix’s controversial series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” in which he portrayed the young Jose Menendez. Pineda’s other credits include Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico” and Telemundo Studios’ “Milagros de Navidad.”
