STOLEN: Don’t Miss The Official Trailer For Karan Tejpal’s Hit Crime Debut
I’m already of the opinion that if film critic Josh Hurtado has anything nice to say about it, then I’m pretty much on board. That motivation brought me to check out the latest official trailer for action thriller, Stolen, marking Karan Tejpal’s directorial debut which bowed in Venice back in 2023.
Stolen is a gripping action thriller set against a stark, rugged landscape in the hinterlands of India. The story follows Gautam in the early hours of the morning at a railway station, where he has come to pick up his brother Raman for a lavish wedding. But their plans unravel when they meet Jhumpa, a frantic mother searching for her kidnapped baby. Raman insists on helping, while Gautam wants no part of it. Then, a case of mistaken identity pulls them into a deadly chase, where their lives hang in the balance.
Tejpal directs from a script he wrote with Swapnil Salkar “Agadbumb”, and Gaurav Dhingra. The film stars Abhishek Banerjee, Mia Maelzer, Shubham Vardhan, Harish Khanna, and Sahidur Rahaman, and will launch on Prime Video on June 4.
I’m sharing the trailer below, but I’m also including Tejpal’s own festival statement which I think should add something interesting to the watercooler chat as of today:
In India, every ten minutes a child “disappears”, with only a fortunate few ever being found. A lack of state accountability, a sense of injustice, and an endless spread of misinformation through digital networks have mobilised vigilantism leading to innocent individuals being wrongfully accused and even penalised. I am alarmed by real life incidents that have eroded trust in our base social systems. Through the disparate characters of Stolen, I touch upon the unwavering strength of the human spirit that yet runs our world. In essence, my work aims to capture the complexity of our changing times while instilling a sense of hope and understanding.
