I haven’t done a Sunday Subs piece in the hottest of minutes so I thought I’d spotlight Movie Firearms, a channel I stumbled upon while doomscrolling to start my day.
As you’ll guess from the name, the channel explores the kinds of firearms used in memorable films throughout history including blockbusters like The Terminator, Robocop, Alien and Aliens to name just a few. I’m sharing a couple of these attributed to John Woo though as the most recent one pertains to 1989’s The Killer.
I like that these videos are analytical in both the films as well as the prop guns used. Growing up with these films I was fascinated by guns and how they looked and were made, and always wondered about their practicality in real life compared to what we see in entertainments. I was big on Commando and how someone could charge into enemy territory like a one man army and save the day, and that always drove my fandom when I was much, much younger. Stallone, Lundgren and Schwarzenegger were my go-to’s, and needless to say, my tastes have evolved since then with the advent of Hong Kong cinema in the West, as well as Hollywood’s acknowledgment of Eastern film on all fronts.
Anyway, check these out:
