As if you needed a reason to go back to the movies and see a John Woo classic on the big screen… Tickets are on sale for a spell of limited theatrical 4K re-releases for three of the director’s greatest hits: Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow, and The Killer. Shout! Studios is ramping up the campaign via their Hong Kong Cinema Classics initiative, in association with GKids Films with a listing of up to 800 theater locations across the U.S., as revealed by Collider‘s Jeff Ewing on Wednesday. If not, take a gander at either and you might understand why it appears both Wheatley and High Rise star Tom Hiddleston are the current frontrunners for a new property at Warner Bros. As Deadline reported on Monday, the studio is in talks to acquire, the Dark Horse Comics publication, Hard Boiled, with the hopes of launching a co-production with Solipsist Films and Hollywood Gang. Created by Frank Miller and Geoff Darrow in 1990, the graphic novel miniseries focused on Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator who discovers he is a homicidal cyborg tax collector and ultimately robotkind’s last hope against programmed oppresion. Todd Brown over at Twitch has posted a new trailer for the upcoming film Kids Police, a filmic ohmage to 70’s classic Japanese action cop dramas with a comedic spin, based on a popular TBS Japanese TV show about a special investigations unit infiltraing a criminal organization called Red Venus, until the team is ultimately ambushed, leaving the Special Investigations branch of the Kanagawa police force operated by children. The film stars Fuku Suzuki, Miyu Honda, Kaichi Kaburagi, Keito Aoki, Yuga Aizawa and Michiko Kichise. It is directed by Yuichi Fukuda and is set for a Japan theatrical release on March 20, 2013.
