Shami Media Group has acquired the worldwide rights to actor and filmmaker Franklin Correa’s recently-completed Pantero Productions action horror thriller, Lyco, just in time for its presentation at Cannes in May. The move marks the next phase of Correa’s career for this, his sixth turn at the helm since picking up and moving forward from smaller roles and stepping into the director’s chair in 2007.
Lyco hails as Correa’s own homage to the work of John Carpenter, telling of an deadly curse that befalls two couriers, their boss, friends and loved ones when an ancient relic draws them in pursuit by assassins, a psychotic voodoo priest and his loyal fanatics. Correa leads the cast and is joined by Terrance Epps, Jorge Valentin and Macquell James with Marilyn Tolentino, Greta Quispe and Miguelina Olivares.
Noted horror director, Insane-O-Rama’s own Marc Fratto (Hellfire) has applied his own polish to several works in recent memory, including Cha Ki Do founder, actor Paul Mormando’s martial arts indie, Bound By Debt; Fratto scored Lyco with a soundtrack akin to more of an eighties tone, in addition to serving as director of photography and editor.
Correa took Lyco to the Urban Action Showcase and Expo last November prior to scoring wins in all three categories of the Blood, Sweat and Bones section, namely Best Action Sequence, Best Feature Film and Best Actor. An up-and-coming film professional since the age of eighteen, Correa is also a decorated Ninjutsu instructor with a fifth degree blackbelt under the guidance of Dr. Dan McEaddy.
