SWEETEST DAY: Dorée Seay Is En Garde In A First Look At Doug Hawley’s New Indie Horror Thriller
If you’re asking me if whether or not the only reason I could possibly be interested in covering another horror could be attributed to the sight of actress Dorée Seay (Split Lip) wielding a sword, then I won’t front. It is what it is, and I’m curious either way as it pertains to her latest thriller, Sweetest Day, which reportedly wrapped production in Warren, Ohio and in Los Angeles, California according to Deadline’s Jesse Whittock in a cast announcement and first look still published on Tuesday.
Pic follows ‘survivor girl’ Mindy (Seay) as she prepares for the battle of her life against the undead confederate soldier that nearly killed her once before.
Sweetest Day is directed by Doug Hawley in his debut at the helm. Seay is joined by Alex MacNicoll, Chris Labadie, Nate Boyer, Deborah S. Craig, and Morgana Shaw, from a script by Hawley and Boyer; Labadie and Boyer also produced alongside Chris Gierowski, Clive Hawkins, and Matthew Hersh, with J.W. Crane and Seay exec producing.
“We want to evoke the vibes of holiday-themed slashers of the late 70s/early 80s like The Town At Dreaded Sundown, Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas and so forth, while simultaneously bringing something new to the genre,” said Hawley.
