3 CHAMBERS FEST II: ‘Killa Hill,’ ‘The Last Dragon,’ Hip-Hop, Comedy And More Headed To Wilmington This December
3 Chambers Fest is now live with details on the upcoming second edition in December, following early bird passes that went out earlier this month. The four-day festival kicks off on December 4 at Jengo’s Playhouse in Wilmington through December 7, as well as The Eagle’s Dare, Union Station Auditorium at Cape Fear Community College, Waterline Brewing Company, and Sokoto House. Opening night at Jengo’s Playhouse will see an exclusive advance screening of Gerald K. Barclay’s Killa Hill, a true crime documentary series that chronicles the escalating murder rate fueled by the crack epidemic which defined the notorious Park Hill projects of Staten Island and home of the Wu-Tang Clan. The seventh edition of Beyond: The Cary Film Festival in Cary, North Carolina, is set to kick off on September 5 at the Cary Theater. Part of the line-up will see the festival’s screening of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1, in association with 3 Chambers Fest, with the film screened with a live scene-by-scene music score by Shaolin Jazz. The first half of a two-volume diptych, Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 released in 2003, unleashing a revival of classic Asian cinema tropes infused with his groundbreaking and often audacious style. In the film, Uma Thurman stars as an unnamed Bride whose life of repose and impending motherhood and marriage is violently upended by her former employer, Bill, played by the late David Carradine. The 21st edition of the NC Black Film Festival is set to kick off its four-day event in Wilmington on Thursday, May 16. Pre-empting the festival will be a free and open-to-the-public Wu-Tang Wednesday Kickoff Party from 5pm to 8pm at Waterline Brewing Company. The event will be hosted by Gravity Records, 3 Chambers, Waterline Brewing Co., and Dawson Med Primary & Urgent Care. Opening night will see the premiere of A Wu-Tang Experience: Live At Red Rock Ampitheatre at Cape Fear Community College Union Station Auditorium. The doc recently screened at Film At Lincoln Center as part of the Hip-Hop Education Center’s (HHEC) 50 for 50 film series. Directed by Gerald K. Residents and consumers of music and genre cinema delights will find themselves in good company come the arrival of the inaugural 3 Chambers Fest in Wilmington, North Carolina. Hosted by Speller Street Films, the festival will be home to a fusion of hip-hop, martial arts, and anime, featuring live music performances and immersive film and art experiences, and more. Per the announcement this Tuesday this week, 3 Chambers Fest commences on Friday, October 13, at Waterline Brewing Company with live performances by Solemn Brigham / Marlowe and Skyzoo live in concert. Advance tickets are now up for grabs at $10 with door prices at $20.
