Filming is underway in Tampere, Finland for Jorma Taccone’s (Pop Star: Never Stop Stopping, MacGruber, SNL) new thriller, The Trip. Actors Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis are starring from a script by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, which re-envisions Tommy Wirkola’s Norwegian 2021 thriller of the same name. Here, Segel and Weaving play a dysfunctional couple who head to a remote cabin to “reconnect,” but each has secret intentions to kill the other. Rounding out the cast are Paul Guilfoyle, and UFC Octagon legend Keith Jardine. XYZ is financing and producing alongside 87North’s Kelly McCormick (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train, the Nobody franchise), Lee Kim (Dual, Get Away), and Guy Danella (Violent Night, Love Hurts). Taccone and Wirkola are exec producing with Karen Gillan co-producing. 74 Entertainment’s Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg who produced the original are also on board and exec producing. The movie […]
John Wagner and Arthur Ranson’s Button Man is still in the mix, even after years of development under multiple hands. Word now comes from Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. that the project is now in the hands of Fifth Season Production Company for a TV adaptation. What’s more is that David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw) is being eyed to direct the series. In addition, he will exec produce alongside Kelly McCormick via 87North. Alex Jackson will also exec produce next to Wagner and Ranson. Here’s a description of the graphic novels via 2000 A.D.: A former soldier, he left the military to offer his services as a mercenary in various Third World engagements, But soldiers-for-hire were a dying breed and the work was drying up. So Harry returned to England, and civvy street. Until a friend tells him about THE KILLING GAME Modern-day […]
Action is now streaming on Peacock. The past eleven years have given me quite the insight into covering stunts as part of my regular syllabus on this site. Getting to meet, talk to and occasionally hang out with stunt performers is an amazing add-on to what I do. The most interesting thing though, is the more industry-tethered work that producers venture in covering that field for documentary purposes. With any luck, the documentary films and shows covering stunts will finally motivate The Academy to make the stunt community whole by attributing a new awards category in its ceremony. It’s a talking point that continues to endure with the help of actors like Keanu Reeves, David Harbor, and Winston Duke who help spotlight these below-the-line screen heroes in Action, a new six-part hourlong documentary on Peacock. Directed by Chelsea Allen and Bridger Nielsen, Action ventures a look into the tireless work […]
It will be a while before we learn the details of what lies ahead but it is confirmed that Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) has booked his next starring gig in With Love, a new action film out of Universal Pictures and 87North. Industry stunt coordinator and second unit director Jonathan Eusebio (300, John Wick franchise, The Matrix Resurrections, Violent Night) will make his feature directing debut from a script being penned by Luke Passmore following up on an original script by Josh Stoddard (Warrior, Kaleidoscope) and Matthew Murray, according to Deadline. The addition of Quan is especially warming given how long he’s been in the game, and the celebration brought on by his success in the aforementioned Daniels-directed A24 release starring Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis. Adding to the attraction is the stunt professional-turned-filmmaker aspect with Eusebio’s attachment, something that’s long been the […]
Momentum is picking up for Born Of War and Close helmer Vicky Jewson’s Ballerina Overdrive, which is launching ahead of the EFM market with The Veterans repping international and CAA for domestic. What’s more is that Heidi and Renae Moneymaker, best known for their combined total experience of 144 film credits in stunt performance excellence, are tapped to design the film’s balletic action sequences according to Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman. Rounding out the current cast is Lena Headey, Yara Shahidi, Isabela Merced, Iris Apatow, Millicent Simmonds and Lana Condor, from Afterlife scribe Kate Freund “about a […]
Ho Yuhang’s 2016 Malaysian-Hong Kong actioner, Mrs. K, has found a new home of late with 87North developing a new take on the cult hit thriller for Universal, according to Deadline this week. The original featured legendary Shaw-era actress Kara Hui in the lead role of a woman whose violent past comes back to haunt her and her family. Anthony D’Alessandro’s exclusive notes that the new film will be a reimagining described as “a fast-paced, darkly humorous action movie featuring an unlikely heroine.” The description further reads: “Mrs. K’s peaceful life is disrupted, and family threatened, when trouble brews.” Author and humorist Mishna Wolff (Werewolves Within) is penning the script. Ho himself will be involved along with Lorna Tee who produced the original via her Paperheart label; they will be joined by 87North’s Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, who is coming off an electric week thusfar since the release of […]
