The film is the third in the director’s Roaring Currents Trilogy telling of Joseon admiral Yi Sun-shin, which began with 2014’s Roaring Currents which starred Choi Min-sik. The film’s box office success persisted a franchise that continued with last year’s Hansan: Rising Dragon with Park Hae-il in the lead. A covert program called ‘The Tyrant Project’ that was carried out in Korea is uncovered by the US intelligence agency, which orders the Korean counterpart to immediately shut down. The project is dismantled and is about to be handed over to the US but an accident takes place during the handoff.
