Gary Daniels Joins Asif Akbar Sci-Fi, ASTRO

Badhouse Martial arts star Gary Daniels has a batch of projects coming in the new year. As of this week, one of them now includes the latest directorial offering from director Asif Akbar for the new film, Astro, which managed to secure financing at the American Film Market in Santa Monica this week. Astro, according to THR, casts Daniels in the new sci-fi about a billionaire whose private space exploration program and its arrival back to Earth includes a kidnapped alien from a newly discovered planet. It’s a little difficult to tell what kind of film this will be judging by the report but with Daniels front and center, perhaps the action fans will have something to look forward to here. AFM 2016: DOORMAN Locks Ryuhei Kitamura To Direct

Oh goodness Christ! I’m both excited and pained at the return of director Kitamura Ryuhei in the years since he became a fan of his work out of Napalm Films, landing notably with the cult acclaimed Versus starring Tak∴. He’s crossed over a bit with films like Midnight Meat Train and No One Lives and I have yet to see those, but his latest is a return to the action genre and one hailing from events over at the American Film Market this week. According to THR, the award-winning filmmaker is set to direct Doorman from a script by by Lior Chefetz and Joe Swanson, about a female soldier who returns from duty and befriends a family in New York only to defend them from a gang of thieves plotting to take their belongings. AFM 2016: Everyone’s A Target In The Latest Trailer For Benny Tjandra Action Crime Thriller, SYNDICATE SMASHER

Making way to the American Film Market soon is the latest bit of lo-fi action and B-movie fanfare from the auspices of Indonesian filmmaker and producer Benny Tjandra’s New GenerAsian Films. For this, we turn to the new crime thriller, Syndicate Smasher, pairing with co-director and writer Doug Tochioka. Tochioka’s script joins legendary character actor Mel Novak (Game Of Death, Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance, Checkpoint) with actresses Laurene Landon and Olya Lvova, and actors John Miguel, David Prak, Eiji Inoue and more for a story centered on a group of mercenaries, initially hired as contract killers, who find themselves targets of four powerful crime organizations and families. Guns go ablaze in the first trailer which eventually aired last month and presents an otherwise appealing little jewel for action movie aficionados when it releases in due time. Brenton Thwaites Action Horror Starrer, OFFICE UPRISING, Taps Stunt Pro Lin Oeding To Helm

Alex Proyas’s Gods Of Egypt didn’t exactly bode well for actor Brenton Thwaites, but he still has prospects as we speak. February saw the news of his addition to the cast of the new zombie actioner, Office Uprising, for which Extraction helmer Steven C. Miller was tapped to direct. Those duties have now switched to stunt professional multi-hyphenate, Lin Oeding (Ant-Man, The Equalizer, Olympus Has Fallen) following a small string of shortfilm and television show credits, including the stellar 2012 action short, Wake, NBC series Chicago P.D., and his upcoming directorial feature debut, Braven, starring Justice League/Aquaman star Jason Momoa. Cheung's Zombie Actioner REDCON-1 Wraps In Time For AFM 2016

Director Chee Keong Cheung is finally poised to have his latest action horror epic presented at the American Film Market starting next werk. His most recent venture, Redcon-1, is finally in post production as per a recent press release over at Horror-Movies.ca which confirms the film’s wrap and post production following a ten week shoot with up to fifteen hundred extras and locations all over the U.S.. Carlos Gallardo (El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Kevin Eastman, co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, executive produced the film which centers on a squad of 8 soldiers sent in to the U.K. to tackle combat-conscious zombies and rescue a scientist who might hold the key to ending the undead anarchy. Now, actor Gerard Butler is gearing up for a third outing as secret service agent Mike Banning in the new film, Angel Has Fallen which will take the floor at the American Film Market next week. Deadline reports that scribes and creators Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, who wrote the first two titles in the trilogy – Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen, will pen the script which sees our hero who now finds himself as the target with the rest of Washington D.C. at stake.
