The Big Easy has long been a natural backdrop for thrillers and dramas, but with Synchronic, New Orleans gets a different kind of party. Paramedics and age-old best friends Steve (Anthony Mackie) and Dennis (Jamie Dornan) begin to find themselves at the scenes of unusual overdoses, murders, and deaths. Nothing adds up until Steve realizes the common thread among all deaths is a synthetic party drug called Synchronic. He gets pushed to his limit when Dennis’ daughter Brianna (Ally Ioannides) goes missing from a party where she herself has taken the drug. Tormented by memories of loss, Steve buys out what he hopes are the last remaining doses of the drug in order to destroy them. But a chance meeting with the drug’s creator tempts him into trying the drug itself. Dr. Kermani (Ramiz Monsef) follows Steve home, even breaking into his house to try to find these last doses. […]

Former stuntman-turned-action screenwriter Madison Turner is now the latest subject of Netflix’s latest formal feature film announcement, The Ogun. The streamer signaled on Monday the addition of actor Anthony Mackie (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as star and producer on the new action thriller which also has Jason Michael Berman producing for Mandalay Pictures. The Ogun centers on Mackie in the role of Xavier Rhodes, who brings his teenage daughter to Nigeria to find a cure for the rare genetic condition that he passed on to her. When his daughter is kidnapped, Rhodes goes on a rampage through the criminal underworld to find her before it’s too late, testing his powers to the limit. The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit notes in his exclusive that the film is being tonally likened “in the vein of John Wick crossed with Dante’s Inferno”. A search for a director is already underway. The film marks the […]
I caught a little something this morning about this Kickstarter for an Altered Carbon RPG. I’m not the type for these but you’re welcome to take a look, and with no better timing than the arrival of the first season two teaser trailer for the hit Netflix series based on the novel that launched the IP into sci-fi drama popularity. Altered Carbon takes place over 300 years in the future in a society transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Season Two of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World […]
Everly and Mayhem helmer Joe Lynch‘s latest feature outing, Point Blank, will be a testament for some critics as to how some remakes fare compared to others. Produced under the auspices of production banner banner WarParty Films, the magnifying glass will especially hover for folks curious of its future endeavors, including a remake of a certain Indonesian crime thriller. It helps that enough time has lapsed for a film like Fred Cavayé’s 2010 thriller to still carry some viability for moviegoers. History notes the film would’ve once had Mark Wahlberg involved in some capacity, which probably makes the casting of Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars Frank Grillo and Anthony Mackie all the more buoyant for fans of both actors. Following most of Cavayé’s formula with screenwriter and co-star Adam G. Simon (Man Down) adding his own touch, it’s not too long before registered nurse, Paul (Mackie) finds himself ambushed in his […]

He’s helping remake The Raid and a whole lot more, and you’re welcome to click here for further due diligence. More on Point Blank: When his pregnant wife is kidnapped and held as collateral, Paul, an ER nurse, must team with the badly injured career criminal and murder suspect under his charge in order to save the lives of his wife and unborn child. Pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of […]

It was announced last summer that Netflix’s neo-noir sci-fi action series, Altered Carbon would get a second season following its successful first outing last February. Joel Kinnaman, Ato Essandoh, and actresses Matha Higareda and Dichen Lachmann led the cast inspired by the Richard K. Morgan’s celebrated novel set in a future where people can “stack” a human conciousness and revive it in a humanoid-like “sleeve”. Also joining with performances by Will Yun Lee and Byron Mann, that’s what plays out for Kinnaman’s role as Takeshi Kovacs, a deadly operative once a member of an elite group of rebels known as Envoys fighting against the new world order. This sets the stage for his reawakening by a wealthy political influencer looking to solve his own murder, which led to an explosive battle between Takeshi, and a woman from his dark past. For this, the story continues with season two now in […]
Actor Anthony Mackie has Fred Cavaye revival, Point Blank, readying production in due time. Until then, you can also chalk him up as next in line to claim the lead for Netflix’s eight-episode second season renewal of hit sci-fi action series, Altered Carbon. The show, packed with sex, intrigue and tons of action and mystery, is based on the 2002 cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan which precedes two more books in its construction. Actor Joel Kinnaman was the principal star apart from actors Byron Mann and Will Yun Lee while among those co-starring were Ato Essandoh, Renée Elise Goldsberry, James Purefoy, Chris Connor, Martha Higareda and actress Dichen Lachman who stars as one of the most daring and dauntless antagonists in TV history, and if you’re new to the series, that’s all I’m leaving here in hopes you’ll see it for yourself. In the world of Altered Carbon, […]

On the eve of the Hollywood premiere of directors Joe and Anthony Russo‘s new film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel exec Kevin Feige finally confirmed this week that the Russo brothers’ next installation of the Captain America storyline has been slated for a May 6, 2016 release date, officially pitting the film against Zack Snyder’s still-scripting Batman/Superman movie. It was also confirmed that co-star Sebastian Stan has a nine picture deal with Marvel that oddly out weighs that of lead Chris Evans‘ by just six, which does leave open the possibility for some interesting developments for the standalone film franchise as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues onward, nonetheless. These updates remain with more ahead as Marvel prepare for the North American release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014. Evans and Stan are also joined by Anthony Mackie who has a brand new featurette at the […]
