I’m not a huge horrorhead like our own Christina Ortega Phillips, though I always prefer a good thriller to bide my time more than anything. Army of the Dead (dir. Zack Snyder), looks to be just another run-of-the-mill heist flick with a few of the undead tossed in for flavor. The trailer opens with the sound of the late great Kenny Rogers classic, “The Gambler” as a seemingly smart foreshadowing to the trailer that follows. Scott Ward, played by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, My Spy) is a humble cook with an heroic past just making ends meet until, that is, he is approached by the token mysterious stranger who tasks our soon to be entrenched warrior with a proposal he, and a group of other hard on their luck mercenaries cannot refuse, with just a few thousand(?) caveats: Zombies. ● Netflix officially launched its teaser on Thursday for Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead, a new post-apocalyptic heist thriller that sees a band of mercenaries pull off an impossible heist in the middle of a zombie outbreak. The film stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Raúl Castillo, Michael Cassidy, and Garret Dillahunt. The film streams May 21. ● Matt Charman, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Bridge Of Spies, will take the helm for sci-fi thriller, The Mothership, from Netflix and MRC. Cameras are officially rolling in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Watchmen, Man Of Steel and Dawn Of The Dead helmer Zack Snyder’s new Netflix action horror, Army Of The Dead. Director Zack Snyder’s new zombie action thriller for Netflix, Army Of The Dead, is officially set for a July shoot according to announcements from the streaming service as of Tuesday. The Dawn Of The Dead, Justice League, Watchmen and Man Of Steel helmer is also scripting with Joby Harold and Shay Hatten. Borys Kit’s THR/Heat Vision exclusive announced on Tuesday that Zack Snyder is set to direct Army of the Dead for Netflix from a script by Joby Harold. Cameras are set to roll this summer with Snyder and wife and film partner Deborah Snyder producing via their Stone Quarry banner with Wesley Coller. The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. Army Of The Dead, originally brewed at Warner Bros. in 2007, reportedly reunites Snyder with Netflix’s Scott Stuber who gave the director his big break with his 2004 directorial debut, Dawn Of The Dead.
