My weekend needed more hours seeing as how the lack of sleep tends to wane on a person. Thankfully I got through it enough to finish this week’s Hit List, though I’ll be keeping some of these passages a bit more abbreviated. Alrighty! In anticipation of an exceptionally busy Christmas, this will be the first of three final installments of The Hit List in 2016. Personally, I look forward to the forthcoming break and on that note I might round up some of my favorite entries of stunt reels and shortfilms in a New Year edition to whet the appetite some. We’ll just have to wait and see! In the meantime, let’s get this party rolling with some wicked videos from around the web, and first up are a pair of terrific new Tekken-inspired kicking reels by Eric Jacobus and Jailbreak star, actor and martial artist Jean-Paul Ly. Not all young performers can pull off the look of an elderly character, and that fact can easily be attributed to actor and filmmaker Joey Min who, razors be damned with that stubborn beard of his, still dares to have a little fun in life with ideas. Such is the case for My Asian Auntie, the latest webseries from the folks over New Jersey-based indie banner Art School Dropouts. Thursday will mark the premiere of the new kung fu comedy series following a few earlier short videos exploring the concept. I had the opportunity to screen all seven parts of this series for myself and it’s a well-worthy labor of love to watch and enjoy from start to finish with Min starring in the title role. Welp, another work weekend has passed and I managed to finish the first of two interviews which are now airing as of this week. Accordingly, the work also extends to putting together new content this week for the Hit List, and there’s plenty to go around! Kicking things off, of course, are the stunt reels, starting with the newest debut reel by Far East Action, a newly-formed stunt ensemble featuring highlights from some noteworthy titles as of late, including Kung Fu Fighter, Time Rush, Wolf Warrior and the 2015 blockbuster epic, Dragon Blade. This week’s installment of the Hit List will definitely be a little light on content. My guess is everyone’s been busy working, which is good for me seeing as if not, I wouldn’t be able to share as much as I often do. As always, we get things started with a fresh new playlist full of stunt and training reels from today’s talented professionals. Stuntman and Shaolin martial artist Tien Hoang is letting it rip with a terrific weapons demo reel directed by Colin Emerson (Sapphire, Dead End). This week feels almost slow, somewhat; There hasn’t been much to write about and I almost chose not to get a Hit List article going this week. Clearly I decided to pick things up on that end as well and thankfully a few things popped up online this week that I wasn’t going to pass up on sharing. BUT first, as always there is the matter of the latest in stunt reels, and it’s ay smaller playlist this week, but a fun little package nonetheless with Braxton McAllister leading the way with a lively stunt reel of his own.
