The official trailer arrived on Tuesday for Malaysian heist thriller, The Experts. Andre Chiew and Nazim Shah share directing duties, with Chiew co-penning alongside Joel Soh and Ayam Fared. Fun fact about this quartet is they each contributed to the highly successful the Polis Evo crime thriller franchise in their own way; Principally, Chiew co-helmed the second installment while Shah served as editor on the trilogy and even had a small role in the first film, so there’s a bit of triva for ya. After a decade of retirement, ex-criminal siblings reunite when blackmailed. Tasked with a risky heist for a notorious gangster, they face past grudges, a family tragedy, and the shadows of their criminal history. Everyone risks all to protect the family in their toughest job yet. The Experts stars Aaron Aziz, Syafiq Kyle, Remy Ishak, Mimi Lana, Ray Dapdap, Wan Hanafi Su, and Tony Eusoff. Astro Shaw […]
Malaysia’s own Syafiq Yusof (Abang Long Fadil trilogy, Polis Evo 3) is here with another offering this time with Sheriff. Plainly and simply. It stars Zul Ariffin whose credits of late partly include fight drama Sangkar, and military thrillers J Revolusi and sequel J2: J Retribusi to name a few. Nazri, a police member from the Narcotics Department feels that the problem of Tony Ifrit’s syabu drug syndicate is becoming more widespread and they often escape the grip of the law when going through the judgment process. Nazri decided to solve the problem himself. Meanwhile the Sheriff, a policeman from the Integrity Department was sent by the IGP to solve the ‘Meth Killer’ case. Sheriff and Nazri are assigned to be under one department. There is a possibility that the Meth Killer is in the Narcotics Department itself. Astro Shaw just released the official trailer for the new action thriller which arrives […]
Long after spinning off the KL Gangster franchise with the successful Abang Long Fadil trilogy, Malaysia’s Syafiq Yusof has now brought his efforts to another franchise, this time taking the reins with cop action threequel thriller Polis Evo 3. Headlining the pic are regulars Zizan Rizak and Sam Shaheizy, the latter whose role of Inspector Khai now finds himself targeted by a former member of the force now turned terrorist. No word on if or when any of the Polis Evo films will get some expanded marketing outside its local reaches but Astro Shaw will pitch this one out to the masses on May 25.
It feels like forever since this site ever covered a piece fresh out of Malaysia… Welp, Wednesday’s proper rollout of the official trailer for Bulan Dan Pria Terhebat says it’s time to change that. The film comes from Ghaz Abu Bakar, the man behind 2015 cop thriller, Polis Evo, and is set to open in Malaysia March 12. The film stars actress and model Zahirah MacWilson in the role of Indonesian special forces agent trainee, Bulan, who enlists the help of an e-hailing cab driver named Haris, to help find and extract her sister from a notorious human trafficking network, all while dodging an assassin’s deadly arsenal. Wira co-star Zizak Rizan also stars along with Khir Rahman, Sain Qudsi and Maya Karin.
As long as I’ve chased the film markets in Asia, I long for the days when Malaysian cinema like Kabir Bhatia’s new movie, Sangkar, can get a wider audience. At long last though, we finally have the official trailer now live and running ahead of the MMA action drama’s August 29 release with Remy Ishak, Zul Ariffin, Niezam Zaidi, Mira Filzah and Nik Adam Mika starring. MMA fighters Adam and Johan take on each other and this results in Johan being seriously injured. Distressed by this, Adam tries to atone for his mistakes by helping out Johan’s family. At the same time, Johan struggles with his own life for his family’s sake. To earn more money to give to Johan’s family, Adam decides to fight an international MMA fighter.
Malaysian outlet Astro Shaw officially unveiled its launch teaser for upcoming action thriller, Wira. It’s director Adrian Teh’s latest follow-up from hit military actioner, Paskal, which reportedly sparked his interest in another military-themed project after the 2018 movie became a local hit. As the logline dictates, Wira has actors Hairul Azreen and Henley Hii rejoining Teh for the story of “an ex-military force character who is fearless in fighting but chooses to deal with problems in his diplomatic ways. However, circumstances leave him with no choice but to fight his way to obtain justice for his family and community.” Wira, of course, also sees legendary action star feat, Yayan Ruhian, co-starring next to forthcoming appearances in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and with Joe Taslim in June for Hit & Run. An official date remains pending, but the launch teaser remains all the more reason to keep a lookout.
Willing to take on the title of leading brand of Southeast Asian consumer entertainment, Malaysia-based Astro had been spreading its wings some with a number of filmmakers to develop projects. Celebrated Indonesian director, Ifa Isfansyah (The Golden Cane Warrior) and acclaimed screenwriter Salman Aristo (Yasmine) are just a few of those people in mind with DO[S]A, an original Malaysia-Indonesia collaboration featuring a strong that otherwise enables co-starring actor Cecep Arif Rahman to enhance some great fight action to top the drama. The story tells of three older brothers, Fuad (Ashraf Sinclair), Farid (Remy Ishak) and Fahad (Hisham Hamid) raised through religion and martial arts, try to protect their headstrong sister, Fara (Shenty Feliziana) who has fallen for a man, Arian (Reuben Elishama) escaping the same underground organisation ‘Gerbang Utara’ that their father, Latif (Dato’ M. Nasir) had previously abandoned. Upon arriving in Jakarta, the group find their lives turned upside […]
Seth Larney’s resume is something pretty interesting. His work credits span more than a decade of performing behind the scenes on numerous independent and Hollywood productions up to 2008 when he started directing shortfilms and even a 2015 documentary. At some point between then and now, his feature film debut at the helm has since landed him greener pastures in Malaysia where Astro Shaw is proudly presenting, Tombiruo: Jungle Guardian. The film is inspired by a 1998 novel of the same name and is slated for a local release on October 12 with a script by Yasmin Yaacob and Choong Chi Ren, and action sequences by Wong Choon Meng who last worked on Wilson Chin’s Special Female Force. Tombiruo Penunggu Rimba is the story of a man who was cast out at birth for his horrific facial deformity, and raised in the jungle by the hermit, Pondolou. When Pondolou is […]
