THE SHADOW STRAYS 2 Is In The Works!

A sequel is officially in development at Netflix for Indonesian action thriller, The Shadow Strays, according to a social media post by Timo Tjahjanto on Friday. The director also hinted at the return of actress Aurora Ribero in a caption he wrote saying “She will return.” The line is a likely reference to Ribero’s portrayal of “13,” a member of an elite clandestine organization of ninja-like assassins whose forced hiatus in Jakarta results in a violent investigation into the murder of a young boy’s mother. Her quest escalates into an all-out war with a gang of politically-connected criminals, as well as her own organization. The film throws in a lot of moving pieces that definitely set up more story arcs, so this would be an ample opportunity for Tjahjanto to capitalize on those, particularly with the cameos of action star Yayan Ruhian, as well as actress Mawar Eva de Jongh. Primed for a Midnight Madness premiere as part of the Toronto International Film Festival in September, director Timo Tjahjanto already has fans foaming for his pending work on the sequel to 2021’s Nobody. At long last though, his latest completed effort now gets a release date in the coming months with The Shadow Strays, signaling folks with a fresh and piping hot new teaser now out and about. Codenamed 13, a 17-year-old trained assassin is currently suspended due to a sloppy mission in Japan. Meeting Monji, an 11-year-old boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate, awakened her conscience. When Monji is captured, 13 is hell-bent on rescuing him, setting off a path of destruction and defying her mentor and the organization that hires her, known as the Shadow. A small, albeit growing festival audience of late is still recovering from a rare big screen presentation of Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us on Sunday evening. Alas, it is hours later into Monday with the director now keeping the momentum going with a brand new teaser poster signaling an October 17 launch date on Netflix for upcoming thriller, The Shadow Strays. Perfect timing, I’d say. Setting up for four dates following its World Premiere on September 10 at the Toronto International Film Festival, The Shadow Strays stars Aurora Ribero in the role of Codename 13, an assassin sent to Jakarta on disciplinary probation after a botched job in Japan.
