Coming December 19 in theaters.
Next December will see the first of a quartet of sequels arising finally for James Cameron’s transformative action adventure sci-fi saga, Avatar 2. An official title may yet be pending unless that’s the title Walt Disney Pictures goes for after acquiring all of 20th Century Fox’s properties as of last month. What is official, however, is the addition of actress Michelle Yeoh following her recent appearances in Crazy Rich Asians, CBS All Access series Star Trek Discovery, and Yuen Woo-Ping’s Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy. She will join a cast of new and returning faces led by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, with Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang also returning. Imagine a sequel so epic that it took more than a decade to make happen… …If you’re thinking Universal Soldier: Regeneration, I like how your mind works. This bit of filmlore, however, goes in the direction of fantasy visionary James Cameron in the wake of his 2009 action adventure, Avatar, a film so nice it was released twice and with earnings of up to nearly $2.8 billion dollars. That’s a fat chunk of change for 20th Century Fox and I’m sure they’re more than grateful at this juncture, and even moreso determined to make the next four movies the best of the bunch. And even better, they all now all have dates courtesy of the latest official Facebook update! Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, […]
It’s been maybe eight years since director James Cameron topped himself at the box-office to the tune of nearly 2.8 billion dollars with the hit film, Avatar. We’ve yet to see a sequel but 20th century Fox is ramping up four sequels to be released almost every other year from 2018 through 2023, which leaves us off another two years before the next film – That’s close to a decade’s worth of waiting which should hopefully grant our dear director enough time to plot just how he’s going to make 10 billion more dollars by the time Avatar 5 rolls around lest there be any franchise fatigue (it’s not impossible). So, of course this is going to take some serious work and that’s not saying Cameron hasn’t been busy, no-no. It’s been very much the opposite on top of what he also has going with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez on the […]
Director Tim Miller’s hit movie, Deadpool, won in epic fashion last weekend at the MTV movie awards, taking away accolades for Best Comedy and Best Fight – this all following its prime box office victory in becoming the highest grossing R-rated superhero movie, ever. So, what else is in tow? Well, the sequel was already announced for active development back in February before then, but as with all things in film, these updates take time to become solid. Thus, what better time than this week, and on the last day of CinemaCon in Las Vegas? Yes, 20th Century Fox was on hand to make its case for several tentpole movies including Independence Day: Resurgence, Assassin’s Creed, and as many as four more sequels to James Cameron’s 2009 interplanetary spirtual sci-fi action epic, Avatar. Of course, Deadpool 2 was part of the roster as well with Ryan Reynolds back to star […]
It’s been ten years since award-winning director James Cameron began his journey into the world of Pandora for the production of his 2009 milestone success story, Avatar. With time on his side and the technological advancements in film pending, it was only a matter of time the filmmaker would soon reap the benefits of such filmmaking and entertainment innovations, from motion capture and 3D technology, to the implementation of 4D entertainment in select theaters worldwide. Evidently, the film was a record-breaking box-office victory for Cameron and the distributors at 20th Century Fox, earning well-over $2.7 billion dollars between 2009, and its re-release in 2010, and ultimately becoming the highest grossing film to date. Moreover, on top of its Academy Award, Golden Globe, Saturn Awards and BAFTA accolades, the film drew mostly positive reviews for its environmentally-centric and anti-war message on top of its emotionally-charged delivery, packed with explosive visual spectacle […]
