Funimation Films Licenses Live-Action BLACK BUTLER For DVD And Blu-Ray Release!

Three years since the release of Warner Bros. Japan’s live-action adaptation, Black Butler, U.S. anime staple Funimation has announced the film as its latest acquisition for a May 2 release on Blu-Ray and DVD. Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Satou directed the film hailing from its roots at Square Enix from Yana Toboso’s 2006 manga publication. Live-Action Manga Adapatation, BLACK BUTLER Gets A UK Release!

Cinematic live-action transitions of anything based on the lore of comic books or mangas are always held to a level of scruitiny these days. Fortunately some of these endeavors fare better than expected, with specific regard to manga novelist Yana Toboso’s serial 2006 graphic novel, Black Butler, one of the most popular mangas to date. The film evidently garnered its own spectacular new feature film at the behest of Warner Bros. Japan last year with directors Kentaro Otani (Go, Masao!) and Keiichi Sato (TIGER&BUNNY) at the helm for its release on January 18, 2014. The film also followed with releases in Hong Kong, the Philippines and Malaysia, and while not a direct adaptation manga itself with some minor changes applied within writer Tsutomu Kuroiwa’s screenplay, for all intents and purposes, the film was a critical success. We have four new character TV spots for the Japan release of the upcoming Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Satou-directed live action theatrical spin-off adaptation of Yana Toboso’s 2006 Square Enix manga publication, Black Butler. The four spots, which you can view below, center on four of the main characters beginning with the first two showing actor Hiro Mizushima who plays the demonic titular butler summoned by actress Ayame Goriki‘s dual portrayal of Shiori/Kiyoharu Genpo at a young age to help her avenge her family. The third and fourth spots, respectively, feature actresses Yuka as Shiori’s aunt, Hanae Wakatsuki, and Mizuki Yamamoto as Rin – the cute and clumsy maid of the Phantomhive, least known for her “skills” other than that of her clumsy housekeeping. After two teasers and several BTS cut-clips were released online, a new full trailer is now available for the upcoming feature-length live action manga re-imagining of Black Buter. Spun off from Yana Toboso’s original 2006 manga, the latest vision from directors Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Sato stars Hiro Mizushima and Ayame Gôriki in a story of the youngest daughter of a wealthy family in a futuristic Victorian-era London, who, prior to changing her identity as the son in order to inherit control of her family’s wealth, summons a killer demon in the form of Sebastian Michaelis, to help her avenge the death of her parents in exchange for her soul. The new poster is online for Warner Bros. Japan’s upcoming live-action manga thriller, Black Butler. Adapted for a big screen spin-off from Yana Toboso’s original 2006 Square Enix manga publication by screenwriter Kuroiwa Tsutomu for directors Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Satou, the film stars Hiro Mizushima in the title role along with actress Ayame Gōriki set in a futuristic multicultural Victorian-era Asian city in a story about a wealthy heiress who masks her identity as a boy to exact her revenge with the help of her butler, whose unique skillset make him a force to be recknoned with. Comic Natalie recently unveiled the new teaser for the new live action manga thriller, Black Butler (a.k.a. Kuroshitshuji), based on a 2006 Square Enix manga publication from author and illustrator Yana Toboso, and adapted for the screen by Kuroiwa Tsutomu. changes were made to the film compared to the original manga, notably including the 130 year difference, setting the film in a culturally blended Asian city in the year 2020, instead of its initial 19th century U.K. backdrop. The film began shooting in back April, co-directed by Kentaro Otani and Keiichi Satou with action choreography by Ouchi Takahito whose select credits also include stuntwork on international action star Donnie Yen’s 2007 action thriller, Flash Point, and serving ad stunt coordinator for the 2009 period action adventure, Kamui Gaiden.
