TADFF XIV: CONTRACTS, MUTANT BLAST, THE ODD FAMILY Among Winners Of The 14th Festival

Toronto After Dark Film Festival made its announcement this weekend after the closure of its 14th annual installment. Among the winning recipients from the 5000+ votes from attendees and fans are Lee Min-jae’s zombie comedy, The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale, in addition to Alex Chung’s tenaciously-produced independent action endeavor, Contracts, crowdfunded sci-fi oddysey, Blood Machines, and Fernando Alle’s Bucheon fave, Mutant Blast. BLOOD MACHINES: Check Out The Stunning New Trailer For Seth Ickerman’s Latest Sci-Fi Thrillride

Three years in the making after the impression left by Turbo Killer, film duo “Seth Ickerman” is back and well on the way to several dozen festival premieres around the world for Blood Machines. The crowdfunded sci-fi thriller streamed its official trailer which you can view above. The goal now will be to oversee its release via Shudder following its announcement in June, with David Sandberg (Kung Fury) part of the team to exec produce, and featuring new music by Carpenter Brut. The film is poised to hit up L’Etrange on Saturday, September 14, prior to unleashing at Fantastic Fest which launches its fifteenth edition next week. What I love most about sci-fi in the new millenium is that today’s crop of filmmakers still tend to express their creativity with an affinity for 80s lore. Make no mistake though – not all creatives can get away with it as many have tried and aren’t quite able to touch onto such a throwback and authentic vision. Pennamed French film duo Seth Ickerman, otherwise known ad Raphael Hernandez and Savitri Joly-Gonfard have accomplished something fiercely amazing with their work, specifically a few years ago in teaming up with synthwave phenomenon Carpenter Brut for the music video, Turbo Killer. Ickerman later followed up with an intriguing, eponymous sci-fi film concept in a trailer of its own visibly harkening back to yesteryear sci-fi of the 70’s and 80’s, invoking glossy and slick designs and texture to its overall richness and high-energy flair much like Turbo Killer.
