KODAMA Wraps: New BTS Stills Offer A First Look At Brian Tang’s Samurai SWAT Fantasy Action Short
Director Brian Tang and set photographer Marshall Hall have revealed new behind-the-scenes photos of Tang’s new sci-fi fantasy martial arts action short, Kodama. The project wrapped shooting on Friday after a week of principal photography beginning last weekend, following a crowdfunding period through Kickstarter earlier this year. Blending Japanese fantasy aesthetics and folklore with modern-day tactical action, Kodama centers on Arthur, the new captain of an elite SWAT Samurai team who leads a rescue mission to recover his father from the spirit world where an evil “Kodama”, and a dangerous shapeshifting Fox Spirit hold him hostage. KODAMA: Samurai SWAT Action Brings Japanese Folklore To Life In Brian Tang’s New Short Filming Next Week
Noted cinematographer and multi-faced filmmaking tradesman Brian Tang has about a handful of his own shortfilm endeavors dating back to 2011, and he’s about to dive right back in with the production of his newest and ambitious labor, Kodama. Collaborating with Joe Sill (Stray) at his Impossible Objects VFX lab, Tang launched the project on Kickstarter back in January for a month-long funding period through February, ultimately surpassing his $40,000 goal. The story is also set in the U.S. which further imbues Tang’s effort to produce an inspired, cutting-edge and modernized Asian American U.S.-set tale emboldened with Japanese folklore. “By mashing elegant traditional Japanese Samurai armor with present day American tactical SWAT aesthetics, we personify the cultural amalgamation associated with the modern Asian American experience.” says Tang according to the Kickstarter page. “Supah Ninjas”, G.I. TWISTING TIGER: Joseph Le’s Karmic Crime Tale Of Kung Fu And Redemption Now Online
Actor and filmmaker Joseph Le is already less than a week away from collaborating on another crowdfunded project, and in light of this, he’s kicking things off with the online release of his latest shortfilm, Twisting Tiger. Le directs from a script by Nick Hoang, with an inspired kung fu drama based on the true stories of its cast, including actor, stunt performer and Shaolin Kung Fu disciple Tarrell Kota Bullock, who’s done several shortfilm projects and even performed for Cirque du Soleil from 2019 through 2020. The project also marks Bullock’s second collaboration with Le since 2019’s “Afro Samurai Champloo”.
