BRUISED: Halle Berry MMA Drama On Track To Netflix Release Pending Deal

Netflix is reportedly in the process of nearing the deal toward acquiring Halle Berry’s new film, Bruised, a film that intially had Blake Lively attached to star with a different director. Next to starring, Berry now has her first directing gig on the Michelle Rosenfarb-penned MMA drama which is screening as a work-in-progress for this year’s virtual Toronto International Film Festival. The news comes marking a new milestone for the actress after years of memorable screen roles, as well as bookmarks of insurmountable struggle, which she herself spotlights in a recent cover story at Variety. Oscar-winning actrees Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball, Kidnap) is making 2019 her banner year with the March production of MMA drama, Bruised. Berry will star as well as make her directorial debut according to an exclusive by Amanda N’Duka at Deadline on Tuesday. Michelle Rosenfarb penned the script which will see Berry play the role of Jackie “Justice”, a disgraced former MMA fighter who must now conquer her demons to face one of the sport’s fiercest rising stars if she is to win back Manny, the son she walked out on when he was six. Basil Iwanyk is producing the film for Thunder Road alongside Management 360’s Linda Gottlieb and Guymon Casady of Management 360 with The Notebook helmer Nick Cassavettes tapped to direct. Written by Michelle Rosenfarb, the film has one of two female leads currently cast for the film with actress Blake Lively starring in a tale about a single mother working two jobs and a former professional fighter who goes back in the ring in order to keep her son. Lively last appeared in Cafè Society, Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows and Marc Forster’s All I See Is You.
