I haven’t posted about Kyle Murillo in a while. Alas, we have Doll Face, a four minute detective procedural featuring website favorite Caitlin Hutson squaring off with Devante Thomas. In search of evidence for her recent missing person case, Detective Jane enters the home of a prime suspect after hours. It feels mighty good to hear from Murillo again. I may not have The Hit List anymore, but if I can spotlight these shorts from time to time, you can bet I will. Enjoy!
It’s been four years since indie creator and industry stunt professional Vlad Rimburg put out a short. The good news is that he’s been making movies for twenty years now and it’s led to a fruitful career for him as a fight choreographer and stunt coordinator and occasional actor, and with a CV that deliniates a body of work attributed inherently to his love for action films, specifically that of the Hong Kong variety. His latest labor is out now with Police Force: First Mission, laced with an all-female line-up of stunt and action performers headed by Kaila Imada and Ashley Kim, and Caitlin Hutson and Amy Sturdivant. Clocked at twelve minutes with minimal dialogue throughout – save for the intro and a cool post-credits scene – Rimburg’s latest is a cavacalde of old-school action delight, topped off with nods to JCVD-style edits woven into the narrative to add to […]
Director Tomek Baginski’s new live action manga/anime adaptation, Knights Of The Zodiac, is currently enjoying a progressive global theatrical rollout that’s already earned the film a total of US $2.4 million following its releases in Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Kenya, Romania and Latin America as of this post. The film officially opens in theaters in the U.S. this weekend when Sony Pictures and Stage6 Films can finally begin tallying up the film’s reception, marking perhaps the next biggest trial ever to be faced by Masami Kurumada’s fan favorite IP given its history. That history is given a detailed and apt exploration in an online documentary hosted and narrated by Ray Mona, who dives well into the franchise’s reception and overall studio treatment of the epic animated saga on television and home media. Going into Baginski’s new movie, Mona’s Tales Of The Lost docuseries gave me a certain appreciation for Baginski’s efforts, […]
There are several clips now making the rounds for Tomasz Baginski’s newest film, Knights Of The Zodiac, the latest of which was released on Friday which you can view below. The clip features lead actor Mackenyu in the lead role of Seiya, opposite the portrayal of the Silver Saint, Eagle Marin, portrayed physically by actress and professional stuntwoman Caitlin Hutson (voiced by Asami Seto for the Japan dub release, English VO credit pending). The scene, a training sequence between Seiya and the enigmatic and lithe Marin, pars for the course with Baginski’s adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s hit manga, which takes off as an origin story that centers on a street orphan thrust into an epic war between knights and the evildoers of Mount Olympus to protect a woman believed to be a reincarnated Goddess. Andy Cheng (Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) led the team behind […]
It feels like it’s been forever and a day since I wrote about Bryan Sloyer, which now brings us to The Book Of Perseus, the latest entry to his body of work as a stuntman and by all accounts, a filmmaker with a strong storytelling caliber and ethic. The short pays a great nod to The Hughes Brothers’ The Book Of Eli which starred Denzel Washington as a drifter backpacking through an apocalyptic wasteland, carrying a mysterious book that supposedly holds the answers to saving mankind. Sloyer also gives his account in the post-film credits of how the project came to pass, collaborating with actor and stunt performer Aaron D. Alexander to help bring the project to life, ultimately attributing it to his love for the film, as well as his faith. The short also features Caitlin Hutson, Zar Succarotte, and Brian Jansa.
I can honestly say that one thing I wasn’t looking forward to doing this weekend, among other things, was fighting a nasty cold and fever. Alas, here we are. The Hit List is always a welcome labor and thus, we begin with a playlist filled to the brim with stunt demo and training reels from today’s talents: Shawn Bernal, Natascha Hopkins, Eric Miyashiki, Luke Davis, Justin Carney, Patrick Chu, Alejandro Gil, Todd Ryan Jones, Joshua Romeo, Mike Marin, LJ LaVecchia, Linda Kessler, Diandra Stoddard, Brittany Battle, Dani Parker, Cheryl Lewis, Gabriel Lewis, Lexter Santana, Jason Elwood Hanna, Bridgette Michelle, Hugh O’Brien and Jodi Stecyk. As far as trailers go, the only one on my radar hails from Darren Holmquist whose latest short, Phone It In, is set for a March 28 big screen premiere for the Indie Shorts Showcase at the Laemmle in Claremont, CA. Click here for tickets! There […]
Next week will see a new installment of The Hit List, jam-packed as always with a continued stream of inspired action shortfilm from some of the best and most exciting creatives and stunt performers around the net. Stunt performer, choreographer and filmmaker Bryan Sloyer has been nothing short of fitting in those aspects in the years since I began covering him in 2014, growing his craft into something I can wholly deem as indicative that he’s ready to take on a bigger arena. His latest, styled as petals., builds up even more on this notion, delivering an emotively-driven story that mingles violent action as a co-star with the kind of poignance and heart he emits in his writing and imagery. Sloyer also appears with a primary cast of performers listing Caitlin Hutson, Justin Chang and Andrew Franklin with cinematography by Kyle Potter. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it […]
