Bruce Lee-Inspired Martial Arts Drama, WARRIOR, Gets A Straight-To-Series Order At Cinemax

Warner Bros. Pictures President of HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming Kary Antholis believes Cinemax has a perfect platform for its strategy in producing mutliple “fun, high-octane, action, pulpy” series dramas at cost-effective rates as it has for several years now. One of those shows includes Strike Back which has a reboot presently in production, with another titled Banshee which sadly ended after four seasons last year. Military Spy Action Drama, STRIKE BACK, Commences Principal Photography For Season Five Reboot

After ending its four season run on Cinemax in the Summer of 2015, my guess was as good as anyone else’s on what would become of the hit Cinemax/Sky series, Strike Back, if anything. Actors Sullivan Stapleton and Phillip Winchester led the show in its evolution as one of the most widely received military spy dramas to date and with uncertainty in the midst late last year, news broke last December of the show’s reboot with a fresh new cast roster, character breakdowns and possible story details. I rarely get a lot of time for television most days. I do, however, try my best not to be too tedious when it comes to shows that get my attention in the best of ways – shows like the Sky/Cinemax series, Strike Back which ended with its fourth season just last summer. The series, which largely set its initial story within the purview of counter terrorism against groups like Al-Queda, followed a buddy cop formula with actors Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton as American and British military agents jointly operating within the covert ops Section program to take out the world’s most dangerous threats. If you’re not subscribed to Cinemax and you love martial arts action and Bruce Lee, then take heed to this latest bit of news as a sign that you should. Following updates last May, the word now is that a pilot order has been given for Warrior, the latest effort hailing from Star Trek: Beyond helmer Justin Lin who is executive producing the pilot and may well direct. From a script by executive producer, hit action series Banshee co-creator, Tropper Ink’s own Jonathan Tropper, the pilot will kick off the potential series set in the aftermath of the Civil War when a young martial artist from China arrives in San Francisco, only to find himself swept into the bloody war between rival Tong factions in Chinatown. The show has gone strong since the top of 2013, and for good godamn reason at that with a sprawling and layered tale of mistaken identity, romance, crime and vengeance. And at the center of it all is actor Antony Starr and actress Ivana Milicevic who have all but led the way through trials and tribulations and dozens of moving pieces, and plot twists seething with intrigue, danger and explosive grade-A action. It’s almost hard to believe that Cinemax’s hit series, Banshee, is coming to a close after this year’s fourth and final season. Bearing this in mind, it’ll be interesting to follow if you’ve been keeping up with actor Antony Starr and actress Ivana Milicevic as their respective characters deal with troubling story arcs that pit them against some of the worst circumstances they’ve had to face. This, coupled with supporting performances by Frankie Faison and Hoon Lee with performances by the stunning Lili Simmons and the intriguing Ulrich Thomsen has led the show to some pretty gut-wrenching twists and turns with piping hot action that keeps you wanting more. The latest trailer for the final season of the hit Cinemax series, Banshee, premiered at the New York Comic Con on Thursday this week. It’s been a delightful series full of thrilling moments in the years since it debuted in 2011, and almost makes you couldn’t have asked for more from television. Antony Starr and Ivana Milicevc are joined by a cast of returning and new characters, with actress Eliza Dushuku leaving her mark on the forth and final season which launches on January 29, 2016. Perhaps one of the biggest and most successful aspects of television in the last several years has been the way in which various shows have been leveling up in action. Cinemax series, Strike Back, has been one of the most interesting and thrilling shows I’ve seen. The network really had something going for itself following its premiere in 2011 and now it’s coming to a close, and although there will be more shows to come on the network, I can’t ignore just how awesome this program is. Actors Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton have done a fantastic job as odd couple brothers-at-arms for covert ops unit Section 20, dodging all sorts of dangers and close calls that have consistently put them in death’s reach, and there are other characters that have come and gone who’ve really added poignance to the show’s growth. If there was ever a reason to watch more television in 2015, let that reason be Cinemax’s Emmy award winning action drama series, Banshee. The third season is already underway, the bodies are piling up, and the rivalries are heating up as well with Antony Starr in the role of Lucas Hood, Banshee’s town sheriff with a hidden past, and Geno Segers as Chayton Littlestone, the menacing towering leader of the Redbone gang. The third season of Banshee is set to end next month, and so with today’s announcement of a fourth season order, casting is still to be determined. Cinemax Announces Production Start Date For The New Series, QUARRY

Male-oriented action novels made headlines aplenty last year with many announced for feature-length film production. A few others will be heading to television as well, and as of this week, we can now include at least one more prospect in the form of the new series, Quarry, which found its way to bookstore shelves starting in 1976. Cinemax has since picked up the property and is officially announcing their plans on Monday via press release. With Strike Back on its way out and Banshee hitting its peak, Quarry sounds like an excellent addition to the network and I can’t wait to see what they contribute to this.
