‘BLOODSPORT’ serves both as guilty pleasure as well as ideal 80s nostalgia. It is the equivalent of cinematic comfort food, and for many this dish served up our first glimpse of the martial arts tour-de-force, Jean Claude Van Damme. The somewhat mystical tournament setting, the great Stan Bush dominated soundtrack and the hilarious inclusion of Donald Gibb (aka Ogre from ‘REVENGE OF THE NERDS’) made this essential viewing back then and still to this day. Although the film is fondly remembered, the basis for the alleged true story has since proven to be largely false.
